Capital One has added new features to the app that allow you to view the real time capacity of Capital One lounges and join a waitlist if there is one. Currently it has been rolled out to most cardholders with the remaining cardholders to see this feature in the coming weeks. If you join a waitlist when a spot opens up your sent a text and then have 15 minutes to get to the lounge before your spot is given to somebody else.
Obviously it would be better if these lounges had enough capacity that this wasn’t an issue, but at least Capital One is being proactive about this.
Great to see it implemented. Wanted to visit the location at IAD, but the waitlist was very long. Thankfully, there was space at the THY lounge.
I will worry about it when Capital Lounge is in BOS Logan Airport. Until then I will be thinking about paying an extra $10 for a Priority Pass lounge waitlist. The alternative is to keep the Chase Sapphire Reserve $550 AF for PP restaurants.
Can they tell us if Jennifer Garner is in the lounge at that moment?
No, only Taylor Swift or Samuel L Jackson
I’m wondering how they track occupancy? Do they have seat sensors? Somebody regularly walking around doing a headcount? A diligent escalator and elevator departure counter?
There are those parking garages that have x number of spaces available on level 3 but in an airport lounge there is a lot of movement entering, exiting, and throughout. Spaces are allocated differently too. 30 business travelers sitting alone at all 30 tables in a lounge or restaurant does not equal 15 couples, 30 people, sitting at 15 of the 30 tables.
Sounds like tracking is by phone.
They know total lounge capacity and then when somebody goes in or out a counter is updated.
Meanwhile Amex for Centurion lounges doesn’t give priority to those to pre-RSVP with the app and will often say they’re at capacity even when the app shows otherwise.
The app eligibility code not a “pre-RSVP”, it’s just a way you can enter without your physical card.
I’m aware.
So then why do you think it should give you “priority”?
How does one get the app eligibility code? Thanks!
They seem to be adding Discover too
Now that’s what I call burying the lede!
