Capital One Business Card Scary Verification Message

Capital One often sends out a pop-up within the online login to their business cards:

Action required
In order to avoid account restriction or closure, please call 1-888-249-3773 by August 13, 2024 to provide important business information.

We may need to obtain information about your business executives and owners. If you have already called and resolved this issue, please disregard this notice.

I was reminded about this today from a ToP post, and actually just have this now myself on my new Spark business card. I recall the same thing happening to me with a prior Capital One business card a couple of years back.

When I called in, they simply asked me some more information about the business and cleared up the issue. They mentioned something about an address and whatnot. For me it was just a 5 minute phone call.

And so this post is to put out the information for posterity not to get concerned over such a message. Interestingly, even after I called in the message still persists. I just ignore it, as per the pop-up: “If you have already called and resolved this issue, please disregard this notice.”

This is what I see in my login:

Had the same message. Called them and after validating a few basic info, I was done in 5 minutes.
The reason stated by the agent was that they couldn’t verify my business is registered with the secretary of state. After confirming that I’m a sole-prop, they agreed that such registration is not needed.

Wow this would scare the jujus out of my P2 lol
what if you don’t log in often? I’m sure they can track how often their users log in/on? I hope before closing/restricting they’d mail out a similar notice?

Better to cash out my spark milles?

Dear Chase, please do not copy this. When I charge $400.00 to my Ink at Staples it’s for my business, I swear. That’s all you need to know.

Churning is a business. No reason they need all the details; you have to guard your proprietary business model.

People. If you get a weird popup like that, go look up the number on your card and call in that way. Better safe than sorry.

Crapital one has the absolute worst customer service and an extremely outdated and cumbersome website and app. I will never open a Crapital one credit card no matter how lucrative the offer.

Really? I guess everyone has a bad experience with a company sometimes. If you Google any major company and add the word “sucks” after it and you can find many negative reviews on every company.

Agreed, even though most major banks always have that clueless off-shore Cust Serv Rep that wastes your time and energy with bogus info, Capone is bottom of the barrel.

If it’s not my wife or my mom, I don’t answer the phone.

My momma passed a few years ago; if she calls, please say hi from me and give her my new #.

I got a similar email a while back about my personal cards. I just called in and answered a few questions regarding income and some other stuff.

It is crazy to me that in this day and age a bank would call you about ANYTHING. That is how the scammers get you.
