Our Verdict

The card just earns 1.5% back, and you should be getting a minimum of 2% value on all your purchases. The most interesting part about this card are the various promotions they’ve been running, like the current Spotify offer and the old Uber offer. It also might make sense for international purchases due to no foreign transaction fees (a rarity among no-fee cards).

As far as the signup bonus goes, the bonus has always been just $100 and it’s now increased to $150. I’d think most readers wait for bonuses of $200+ before signing up for a card, but it could make sense if you wanted this card anyway or if you want to get your foot in the door with Capital One (if that’s even a thing). A lot of people would just product change another card to the Quicksilver instead.

Remember that Capital One pulls all three bureaus for new credit card applications, though you can freeze your Experian and get approved. Check out these other Things to Know about Capital One before applying. We’ve also added this to our list of the best cash sign up bonuses.

  • Hello Doctor and his patients,

When i started my credit journey, the first credit card i got approved for was Capital One Platinum. If I call bank to upgrade me to quicksilver, will I be eligible for the $150 signup bonus?

  • This card is not worth three hard pulls. It is one of the few cards that refused me last year. Never again.

  • What do you guys think is the better card? The QS or the Premier Dining Card?

I mainly use my QS when I travel and I think that the 3% dining and 2% groceries would yield a better return rate than the standard 1.5%

I really hope they allow a PC from the QS to Premier Dining.

    • Premier Dining would be better if you dine and buy groceries to offset non category spending.I requested a PC from QS to PD a couple of months ago and was declined being told that I had no offers. The rewards on the PD, QS and Journey cards are all No Hassle Cash Rewards and can be transferred between accounts. That's why I wanted both QS and PD.

  • Should I bother with this card? I am 19 with 1.5 years of credit history and a 740 FICO. 3 credit cards of my own, total credit line $7,500. ($4,000 on most recent Amex Blue I was approved for.) \

ALSO... say I do get it, and close it in a year--would I be able to sign up again for it later under a bonus? I'm very familiar with Bank Bonuses, but not the credit card side of churning. Thanks for the help.

  • Mine is a mastercard, I PCed from a old generic capital one platinum card, it's definitely a card worth having.

  • Our previous Master Cards that were PC from the Venture were turned into Quick Silver Visa Signature by CapOne without us even having an option a couple years ago.

I did not realize QS now has Mastercard version. I would ask CapOne if we could change to the MC version even it may not be World Elite after we finish the current upcoming trip. It does not matter too much if it is just the basic World version as the differentials in the benefits are not meaningful to us.

    • you cannot change from Visa to Mastercard. But can change to Venture or Venture One as per current rules from Capital One.

      • Bummer. I prefer MC but dont want to apply one with the 3 HPs CapOne would do!

Back when they offered 100K "miles " match on the Venture, it was worth it but nothing in its current line up worth the 3 HPs, except may be the Spark.

I may also add, if you do not use their cards for extended long time, eventually it will cut the CL. Husband's QS from Venture was a $30K CL card. It was hardly used in its life of QS. Can't remember whether it was late last year or early this year, he received a notice from CapOne to reduce the CL to $10K. :td:

Granted, CapOne did send a few emails requesting income update, which we ignored them.

        • yup, one of the strangest banks to deal with!

what I like though is - no FX fee, can redeem any amount. same applies to Discover.

hence, Cap One & Discover are my go to International cards w/o any hassles.

  • Does anyone know if the Quicksilver can be product changed to the CO Venture card? I ask because I would like the Venture card, but as a World Elite Mastercard (which all Quicksilvers are), not Visa Signature. Seems like a PC from the Quicksilver to the Venture would require CO to keep the account as a MasterCard.

    Any thoughts?

    • Not all Quicksilvers are WE MasterCards . I have two, one is a Platinum Visa and the other is a Platinum MasterCard that began as a 5/3 Bank Optimum MasterCard. Capital One did issue me a BuyPower WEMC however.

    • You can PC to Venture or Venture One. But Capital One is doesn't allow PC easily. You need to wait for 6 months or a year between PC. And that too it's not certain... depends on Capital One. You can chat with reps and they will tell if there are any 'offers to PC'.

Capital One offers both Mastercard and Visa card types but it periodically changes product types.

Currently QS is offered as Mastercard and Venture and Venture One are on Visa. You cannot change product the from Visa to MC n vice versa.

And all QS are not World Elites. It depends on the approval at the time of application.

    • I think Venture > QS works, so the opposite might be possible too.

(Most people like to apply for Venture directly due to the nice signup bonus there.)

  • We product changed from Venture the Million Miles Matched years ago, to a cash rebate master card which then was auto-changed to Quick Silver.

While it is only a 1.5% rebate, it is very good to use internationally due to CapOne does not pass on the 1% Visa network fee like Chase does. So in effect when you use your CSP overseas, you only get a 1% on your dining for example. Ditto for any other Chase no forex fee cards which all carry AF either right out of the gate like CSR or from 2nd year.

A friend also has had good experience on rental car coverage he needed to use when his rental car tire was vandalized in Avignon, France 2 years ago. He filed claim as defective tire and CapOne approved the claim. He was quite impressed by how hassle-free the process was - CapOne only asked for documentation once and the claim was settled in a few weeks IIRC what he told me.

    • Could you explain this a bit more? Are you saying that Chase adds a hidden 1% forex fee even though they say they have no fees? So if you but the same thing with CSP and Quick Silver it'll cost 1% more on the CSP, before any points are awarded?

  • any DP out there are MSing on Cap Ones and their tolerance for HP on CR? staying away from USB AR situations here...

  • I just got the similar Bank of America.

I might get this one as well.

My goals are 1.5 percent with few or no hoops to redeem, no annual fee and no foreign transaction fee. Is this one a MasterCard ? MasterCard better than visa due to better exchange rate.

Biggest goal is the hardest to figure out -- which bank will let me have a foreign address as my mailing address, and mail replacement cards to the foreign address. I have not been able to find the answer to this on the internet

    • I have two Quicksilver cards. The one that I was approved for last year is a Visa. The other one is a MasterCard that began life over five years ago as a 5/3 Bank Optimum MasterCard. Both have no AF. Capital One also offers a nearly identical product called Quicksilver One geared toward builders. Quicksilver One is a MasterCard and has a $39 AF.
