Capital One are finally issuing Quicksilver cards with an EMV chip. Reddit user mk712 reports receiving the following e-mail:
This is a nice upgrade and actually makes the Capital one Quicksilver somewhat worth holding for international purchases:
- 1.5% cash back on all purchases
- No annual fee
- No foreign transaction fee
The other option would be the Barclaycard Arrival+ which also has an EMV chip (and PIN functionality) which earns up to 2.22% when redeeming against travel expenses, also with no foreign transaction fees, the downside is that there is a $89 annual fee.
Also keep in mind that the Capital One Quicksilver also gives you 21.5% off Uber rides (and two free rides). Now I’m not for a moment suggesting that you should apply for the Quicksilver: it only has a sign up bonus of $100 and Capital One will pull your credit report from all three credit bureaus. I do think it’s worth doing a product change to this card if you have an existing Capital One product though.
If you’re unsure why chip cards are important for reducing fraud rates, read our post on the October liability shift. I imagine that this will be slowly rolled out to all Quicksilver customers, although you should be able to call the number on the back of your card to request it early.
Capital One has the Spark business card that earns 2% cash back on any purchase, no limit, anywhere and no annual fee if applied in branch. You could potentially get $300 sign up bonus as well. Were you aware of that?
I know there is no annual fee in branch, but I wasn’t aware you can get the $300 sign up bonus as well which is why I didn’t post. I’ll do a post shortly and maybe can confirm or deny.
There wasn’t any written offer for the $300 anywhere in the branch, but I’ve got it. $50 for adding auth user. $250 for spending $5000 in 3 months; just like the online offer, but no annual fee.
