Update 2: Looks like this was an isolated incident and transfers are working fine.
Update 11/22/22: Transfers seems to be down again for some people. Hat tip to sunnydeedoherty
Update 10/7/22: Transfers are working again.
Update 10/3/22: According to a statement provided to VFTW transfers will be restored within a week.
Original post: In the last few days Capital One has removed the ability to transfer to travel partners with the website stating it’s down for maintenance. Frontline customer service representatives have been unable to state why these transfers are currently unavailability or when the ‘maintenance’ will be fixed.

Still not working for me. It has cost me several thousand dollars that I have been unable to transfer miles from Capital One to Virgin Red. Every time I get a message saying my names do not match – but they do match exactly. Been fighting this battle with Capital One and Virgin Red since last September. Still no resolution. I now need to add my son to the flight and could do it for 15,000 miles and $150 but since I can’t access my Capital One points it will cost me $900. I can cancel but that won’t get my money back.
Any chance you ever resolved this? I’m having the save exact problem and Cap1 doesn’t seem to think it’s a problem or care.
I came across this post and I’m having the exact same problem but I figured out how to fix it. So my Virgin Red account had my middle name on the account. I called Capital One to add my middle name to my account. I waited 24 hours and I’m still getting an error that says the points didn’t go through because “It looks like the name on your Travel Loyalty Program account doesn’t match up with the name on your card.”
Here’s how I fixed it. I opened a new Virgin Red account with ONLY my first and last name (no middle name). I transferred 1,000 from Capital One to this new account and sure enough, the points went through immediately. To recap, my Capital One account now has my First Name & Middle name but the Virgin Red account does NOT have my Middle name yet the transfer went through even though my name doesn’t technically match. It seems like the problem is caused by having more one word in the First Name field in your Virgin Red profile. This was an enormous headache but glad I finally got it to work. So I recommend opening a new Virgin Red account and see if it works for you by transferring 1,000 as a test. I was able to Link this new Virgin Red account to my Virgin Atlantic account even though I already had one linked previously. I hope this continues to work and isn’t a one-time fix.
The Capital One transfer to Virgin Red does not work. I have been trying since September 19 to transfer points to Virgin Red with no success (after multiple conference calls with Capital One and Virgin Red). It simply does not work. This is nothing more than a bait and switch from Capital One. I got a call back from them today and they admitted there was nothing they can do. Penelope at Capital One suggested I simply try using my Capital One points another way. Very disappointing.
Worked fine for me on Monday. Transferred over 30,000 miles and the points showed up nearly instantly, which I used for a Virgin Atlantic flight change a few minutes later.
So I had the same issue and I found out what the problem was. When you input your account Number in Cap One transfer partner you expect to put a number there, but it’s actually not a number. Virgin Red one accountId are actually words separated by dashes. It’s on the first email you receive from Virgin when you open up an account. Mine was “yoga-foal-onyx-xxxx” (last one is X’d out for privacy). Once I entered this id it worked. hope that helps anyone else having the same issues!
Thank you javier yun! I’ve tried multiple times to make a transfer to Virgin and never in a million years would have figured out that my account number is actually four 4-letter words! You can also find it in your personal details in your virgin red account.
I had the same issue today!. I plugged in the letters from Virgin and it worked!thank you!
some ppl’s DP said $300 annual travel bonus (booking via C1 travel) not show up credit for a long time. Anyone has recent DP show it is working and credit now?
thx
Not yet. Still waiting since early August for credits on 2 different Venture X cards, PLUS the $200 AirBnB credits from about the same time haven’t shown up either.
Flyertalk has similar posts.
I’ll probably end up just canceling the Venture X cards when they renew – too high of an annual fee to have to fight this hard to get the promised benefits.
thx for your DP. Too bad many experience from Aug not showing up credit like in the beginning 2~3 days credit.
How about if calling C1 to ask Manually credit before closing card when annual fee hit this year?
Is that possible? Otherwise, either it show up couple of months later or it is no way to get $300 (+200 ) back after closing.
It looks like hassle to redeem points or getting travel credit after hearing so many DP recently.
I should did the booking early this year to use them out first. Right now it is delimma to keep the card or not.
It’s definitely slow. Took mine 5 weeks.
AF on 11/5. Booked hotel on 11/11 and credit showed up 11/14
I still can’t transfer. It let’s me put the info in, but then the “Next” button is greyed out.
dp -Transferred out to lifemiles this morning, no hiccup. Instant transfer.
Transfer portal is back up.
I called today and was given the absolute run around. I was transfered to three different people and none of them seemed to understand what the issue was.
It was almost as if they were told to act like converting points wasn’t a thing. Very strange and very disappointing! All I really wanted was for them to confirm an eta for when it would work again.
I had the exact same situation on 10/6. Transferred to points department. Transferred to travel department. Travel department rep contacted another department. They told me they were working on sending out a communication to their customers and it would be out ASAP. Well that was a lie. Really going to have to reconsider my VX. If they don’t give a pretty generous retention offer, I might cancel just to send a message.
Capital One has two things going for it but nothing more.
– Welcome offers
– 2X on “all other” charges with no foreign transaction fees
Other than those two things, Capital One offers nothing that is not otherwise available via another card issuer.
Do the welcome offers then punt. It’s not worth the ongoing hassles and poor customer service.
They are also good at rejecting apps from people with good credit and low balances. They did have that awesome 100,000 miles promo that one time. But actually right now they have decent CD rates compared to most other big banks.
What are they good at? Besides data breach
Is anyone planning to renew their card? My anniversary date is coming up and now I’m not so sure. I’ve been waiting to make a booking and if the award space I’ve not been able to use disappears before there transfers are available, I’m going to be really upset.
Any chance this company is going to do anything to compensate customers for the frustration and potential losses while our points are unusable?
