Chase has brought the popular ‘Pay Yourself Back’ feature to the Disney cards. You can now redeem points for 1¢ per point on the following purchases:
- Select U.S. Disney locations in Disney Parks and Resorts (for a list of Disney locations, visit DisneyRewards.com/Where-To-Redeem), Disney store and outlet locations in the U.S., shopDisney.com, DisneyPlus.com, Hulu.com and ESPNPlus.com
Not the most exciting addition.
If I use PYB on a purchase that was already made, do I still earn the 1 or 2% back on that purchase?
For example: I buy a $200 Disneyland ticket which earns 2% back ($4). I then go and do the PYB feature on that ticket to get the $200 back. Did I still earn the 2% rewards (the $4?)
Assuming it works the same way as other Chase cards, yes. It’d be the same payment as cash, just with rewards.
Why would someone do this instead of just using 1X for money in their bank account?
Wondering the same… I can see if it’s anything >1x, but otherwise, I don’t see why you even make PYB a thing.
I understand Chase offering it as they probably get a little bit off from their partners. What I don’t understand is why any of us would do this option.
To use the Disney points that are there from getting the sub. I have no use for Disney points so I am going to do a purchase at the Disney shop online and do PYB. 3 months of Hulu is refunded as a credit for $14.99 till September for the new cardholders so I don’t need it for that.
Are you saying that the points earned from the SUB for the Disney card cannot be used to redeem for a statement credit or for a bank transfer?
Coincidentally, I was actually planning on applying to this card soon as I received an offer in the mail. If the points can only be redeemed at the Disney shop, the card would be completely useless to me.
This is Disney rewards dollars, they can only be used at Disney and on Disney products already. This is just a new way to redeem, rather than having to transfer them onto a redemption card to use.
Slight advantage now as you can earn on the purchase before PYBing it. Prior to the PYB rollout a few months back, you had to use the redemption card to use your rewards dollars. (Unless you had the Premiere card and used them for airfare.) Useful for people who actually spend at Disney on the regular.
I just pulled out the offer that I received in the mail. It shows “Earn a $400 Statement Credit”. How can they lie like that and the points can only be used toward Disney products? What you wrote is hard to believe.
I should have clarified that the offer that I received is for the Disney Premier card. Maybe what you described is for the regular Disney card.
The sign up bonus is a statement credit. The rewards earned from purchases are Disney rewards dollars. The post is talking about PYB using the rewards dollars. Two different things on the Disney cards. No one is lying.
Thank you for the clarification. In that case, I’m not too concerned with the $10 or so in worthless “Disney Dollars” that I will likely squander that the $1000+ of purchases for the SUB will earn.
BTW, I like your “name”. It’s ironic.
This is for the Disney cards, they earn Disney Dollars not Chase UR. You can’t get 1x money in your bank account currently
Yes, I know that they don’t earn UR. However, when an offer tells me that I’ll earn a “Statement Credit”, I assume that it means that I can apply the $400 in points that I will earn from the SUB toward my statement balance. Are you saying that I won’t be able to?
Ah, there’s the disconnect. It’s an actual statement credit on your account. It’s not “worth $400” like Chase advertises the cashback cards where you get points=dollars, it’s actually a credit on your account for $400. There’s no way to PYB on a statement credit, that’s just asking for a refund of a credit balance. The post is talking about the 1% or 2% in rewards dollars you earn from making the purchases. To make MSR you’ll get a few bucks worth in rewards dollars too.
Thank you for understanding where I was coming from.
The sign up bonus is statement credit, the card earns Disney dollars.
Does anyone know if there’s a minimum to redeem Disney points towards flights w/ the Premier card
No minimum. Only restriction is on eligibility – “Purchases made with third-party providers and travel agencies are not eligible.” Redeem for a penny or the full flight amount.
As it stands, the only real way to “game” your way to discounted Disney stays is by buying Disney gift cards on sale (routinely there are sales for 10-15% off) and just stocking up. Disney lets you pay for resort stays and park tickets with gift cards, so spending towards MSR on another card or using a grocery card can help sweeten the pot.
What I would give for some kinda of premium Disney card where you could redeem towards Disney resort stays at 1.5cpp.
Just don’t make the mistake of buying $10k worth of Disney+ GCs instead! Big story about someone who did that, Disney cashed in on the attention and made a big deal about letting the person use it towards tickets/vacation instead.
You could already use Disney dollars on Disney streaming services and shop Disney.com. That is not a new perk.
Also includes resort bookings, much easier than the stupid transfer to a rewards card nonsense. Same PYB rules as other cards as you can only redeem toward a purchase 1 time.
