Chase Aeroplan: Pay Yourself Back On Travel 1.25 Cents Now Limited To 200k Per Year

For the past two years, the Chase Aeroplan card has offered a cashout option on Aeroplan points at 1.25 cents per point when used to offset purchases in the Travel category.

As of today (1/1/25), they’ve added a new limit of 200,000 points per year which can be redeemed at 1.25 cents per point. That would amount to $2,500 in Travel purchases being offset if you max out the 200k point limit.

I’m sure the whales out there will hate this change, but personally I like when they make limits which are then hopefully “safe” to take advantage of.

The Chase Aeroplan card also offers 1.25 cents per point when used to offset the annual fee; this does not eat into your 200k limit on the Travel category. And there’s also an option to redeem points to offset Dining & Grocery charges at a rate of .8 cents per point.

Are there any other ways to cash out Chase UR points for more than 1 cent/point? Ideally, an option with a higher limit. I’m aware of the options to transfer the points to their partners or booking travel thru their portal, but I’m specifically referring to cashing out.

If you think this is in any way a good thing, wait until they come after something you care about, and nobody will be left to help defend with you.

Are you expecting a meaningful number of Chase / Aeroplan customers to get mad about the change that impacts a small fraction of a percent of all their customers?

LOL are you one of those whales that hate this change?

I’m all for them to stop the few abusers that MS tens of millions of MR points a month and cash out via PYB. These abusers are the very reason for all the “we can’t have good things” cycles in this game.

Another great thing they’ve recently done is the Ink speed limiter, IMO it is not fair for the rest of Chase customers to pay the high fees only for Chase to transfer a huge portion of that to you in terms of 5000000 UR points a year when you open 6 Inks per quarter.

We need you to stop ruining it for everyone, rather than your “help” to defend anything. The banks are able and willing to defend their bottom line and the interest of the majority of their customers, and as we can see here, they do.

No, I’m not, and there are no “abusers” hitting anything close to “tens of millions” of Aeroplan points* (this is not Amex, so “MR”? Do you read?) on “MS” which refers to churning SuBs. Anyone who actually get 10mln points are actually spending to get them, so just tell us you’re poor and leave it at that. Idk who or what you think you’re D riding on, but your reasoning is so nonsensical, I’m convinced you have autism or some mental disorder.

Amex MR can be transferred to Aeroplan points and then get redeemed for cash through Chase’s PYB. Chase is just not happy some whales are cashing out the points they received from other banks

My Chase app shows this on my Aeroplan card (posting for confirmation / clarification) under “Travel” as a PYB category: “Valid through 12/31/2025 – Redeem up to 200,000 pts”

Chase has a Gen Z product manager watching YouTube to get ideas on what to nerf next. Still 200k is nice for the average person.

How is it nice? It is ridiculously low. A family going almost anywhere will surpass that. A couple going almost anywhere out of Americas will surpass that. Even a single person will surpass it if buying business class. 1 million could be good. 500k could be barely tolerable. 200k is a joke.

@Miz, the ‘average’ person doesn’t buy business class.

Except for one, all other cases I mentioned are for economy. Work on your reading comprehension.
In addition, if you are going that route, the average person in US does not carry a $95 annual fee card to begin with.

Then do redemptions with the Aeroplan points? Not difficult

Any idea if PYB is available at 1 cent/point after the 200k threshold?
