Chase Changing Timing Of Chase Sapphire Reserve Travel Credit For Some Cardholders

Some Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders have received an e-mail from Chase informing them that the timing of their travel credit will be changing. For example:

  • Like in years past your $300 annual travel credit will reset in
December and you will start to receive statement credits for
    travel purchases.
  • On December 30, 2024, any unused portion of your $300 credit
will be applied to your account as a statement credit.
  • Starting in 2025, your $300 travel credit will then reset annually on <card anniversary date> and you will start receiving statement credits up to $300 for your travel purchases.
  • All other rewards program terms continue to apply.

If you’ve applied since May 21, 2017 this will not affect you at all as you already receive the credit based on your cardmember year rather than calendar year. People who applied before that date had a grandfathered credit and will be in line with all other cardholders.

This change is only for grandfathered CSR members who get the travel credit based on the calendar year. Those who signed up since May 21, 2017, get the credit based on the cardmember year. For them, there are no changes at all.

Does anyone know how to track when the $300 travel credit was posted in previous years? IE, I didn’t bother tracking it in 2024, I’d like to go back and see when the credits were applied but none of my statements show any sort of credit, even when there were very clear travel charges such as airfare, mass transit, etc.

I’m grandfathered in and got this email notification, my af will hit on Feb 1, does that mean I can double dip (Dec 2024, Feb 2025) and then cancel/downgrade soon as credit post without paying another AF?

Wait.. is the unused portion posting as a statement credit a new thing going forward? As in it’s good as cash? Or just this once?

It’s probably just the once to readjust everyone’s dates.

I heard that one can only allow one Sapphire card. I have downgraded my Sapphire resrve to regular sapphire card several years ago. As a regular Sapphire card holder, can I still apply for a Sapphire preferred or reserve cards to get the bonus. Thanks a lot.

you’ll need to cancel or product change the regular sapphire first.

Both my husband and I signed up for the Reserve card back in Aug. 2016 three days apart from each other. I have received an email but he has not. Why would that be? Mine said this: Here’s a summary of what to expect:•Like in years past your $300 annual travel credit will reset in December and you will start to receive statement credits for travel purchases.
•On December 30, 2024, any unused portion of your $300 credit will be applied to your account as a statement credit.
•Starting in 2025, your $300 travel credit will then reset annually on September 5 and you will start receiving
statement credits up to $300 for your travel purchases.
•All other rewards program terms continue to apply.

Does this mean I will get the travel credit toward my statement balance in December and won’t get it again until September? I’m confused

Isn’t the Ritz on the calendar year credit already?

Huh, got my CSR in January 2017 and so far no email. But looking forward to the extra $300.

Lots of people are going to cancel soon anyways. With the higher annual fee, no instacart, and no priority pass restaurants it is hard to justify holding.

Looks like an extra $300 for having been one of the earliest and having stayed so long with CSR. Will take it, thanks Chase.

So you get rewarded $300, but you missed out on at least one SUB for Reserve between 2016 and 2024, worth at least $1k. Better than nothing, for sure, but I’d rethink my strategy if I was in your shoes IMHO.

Count me as confused. Facts:

  • 2016 applicant
  • As of today, I have used my full $300 credit
  • This is what my email said:
  • On December 30, 2024, any unused portion of your $300 credit will be applied to your account as a statement credit.
  • Starting in 2025, your $300 travel credit will then reset annually on November 28 and you will start receiving statement credits up to $300 for your travel purchases.

So does that mean:

  • that the next time my credit will be of any value to me is literally 14 months from now? If so, I need to PC immediately.
  • Or am I going to get $300 in December as a statement credit and then still not have an actual travel credit to use until next November?

My interpretation:

Normally you’d have a $300 credit from Dec 28 2024 – Dec 27 2025.

Instead you get a $300 credit on Dec 30 2024, with no spend required. That is effectively your Dec 30 2024 – Nov 27 2025 credit accelerated. ($300 shortening your “year” to 11 months instead of 12)

Your next credit that requires travel purchases is Nov 28 2025 – Nov 27 2026.
