Our Verdict
We discussed the details of this new card in this post. It’s worth reading this FAQ follow-up post as well. And you can click this link to view all of our many recent Freedom Flex posts.
We’re operating under the assumption that 5/24 does apply to this card unless we hear otherwise. Check out all these Things To Know About Chase Credit Cards before applying.
If you are under 5/24, it could make sense to apply for this card directly instead of product changing in order to get the nice signup bonus offer. We don’t know how long the signup bonus will last (it’s typically just the $200, with the 5% grocery being a temporary addition). I’d guess it’ll be for at least a few weeks or longer given that it’s being promoted as the card launch offer.
The Chase Freedom Visa 5% card is still available as of today, though it’s expected to be gone tomorrow. (See this post where we discuss whether it makes sense to signup for that card or for the new version.)
If you do apply and get approved today (9/14), be sure to immediately activate the Q3 2020 5% categories since those need to be activated by the 14th 15th. You’ll then have through the end of the month to try maxing out the category which is Amazon and Whole Foods.
Hey, everybody!
Could you kindly tell me to which credit bureau Chase is doing a hard inquiry after the application for Chase Freedom Flex is submitted? Thank you

Does this 5% grocery stack with the rotating 5% grocery?
Applied 10/4
Called 10/14 – under review – so I called recon and was able to transfer my Freedom credit line to the Flex!
Technically 1/24. Opened 3 Chase business cards in the last 12 months.
I now have a full DP to share:
9/14: Applied for CFF, 2/24. Not instantly approved. Called recon and was told to verify income by mail or fax using reference number.
9/18: Faxed two recent pay stubs.
9/22: Received email notification titled “We’ve reviewing your application”
9/24: CFF card appeared on Chase app with $3200 CL.
same thing happened to me and when I sent in two paystubs, they declined. reconned and still declined. gonna try again tomorrow but looks like it aint for me
That may be so for now, sadly. Maybe Chase is getting pickier with new card apps as it now has a better sense of applicant DPs.
Used my wife’s referral link to apply and was approved with a $500 credit limit. They’re getting less and less generous. My last Chase card (Southwest) was $2000. My total now over 6 personal cards is 30K, over 3 business cards is 33K. Time to ask for a reallocation.
I notice in the UR page for the FLEX it shows +4% for travel, +2% for dining, but not +4% for groceries? Is there anywhere that shows your grocery purchases compared to your limit?
I do see the countdown to your $500 spend.
? isn’t it 5% for travel and 3% for dining for Flex? I don’t see the grocery spend but that’s the opening bonus so maybe you’ll have to check once you see the points history
It starts out at 1%. So when they say +4%, they mean 4% extra.
Mine worked out! With a generous credit limit. Evidently they needed to speak to me in person to confirm details because there is so much fraud going around. These days, more than ever I think.
Thank you!
Got the pending message like many others, fraud dept called Me, verified some info then I was approved. I’m now 3/24
Couldn’t remember if I was under 5/24 or not. Filled out the app and it said it was pending and they needed more info. I already have the freedom and the freedom unlimited and a checking and savings account with Chase. Probably getting rejected. Got a notification they did a hard pull from credit sesame and chase journey (which yeah it was from you0. All well.
I already have 5 cards with chase, but my application for CFF went on pending. After I called they request me to send the SSN + Driver’s License to them….LOL like, this has never happened before!
