As rumored, the Chase Freedom Unlimited now has a signup bonus of 3x points on all purchases the first year. This replaces the $150 bonus offer. This offer is currently only available in branch, I expect it’ll be an online offer soon.
The Offer
- Signup for the Chase Freedom Unlimited and get 3x points everywhere for the entire first cardmember year, up to $20,000 in purchases earns the higher rate.
Card Basics
- No annual fee
- Regular rewards rate after first year is 1.5% back
- Card earns cash back, but if you have a premium Chase card like the Sapphire Reserve/Preferred, the cash works like Ultimate Rewards points
- 0% Introductory APR for 15 months on purchases and balance transfers (5% balance transfer fee)

Our Verdict
They ran a similar offer last year, but without the $20,000 cap. Given the cap, it’s essentially as if there were a 30,000 points bonus on $20,000 spend – after spending $20,000 you’ll get 60,000 points, half from ordinary earn and half from signup bonus. Makes sense for someone who anyway wants to use the card as their daily driver.
Remember, most of us are not eligible for the card due to the 5/24 rule. Check out also these Things Everybody Should Know About Chase Credit Cards before applying.

Approved $10k in branch, 820, 1/24
Can I churn 3% bonus if I got it just last year? I am 4/24!
Come on Chase make this go live online already!
I’m still waiting for the 30K points on $500 spend targeted offer.
Wait, what? Has that ever been a thing? Or it’s just your dream?
That’s 100 percent been an offer before but it might have been a couple of years since it was last offered.
If you have a two player household, you’d likely be better off just referring player two for 10k and the standard sign up of 15k after $500 spend.

off topic, but I thought usernames were unique?
(if not, I wonder if you ever had problems with random 1-post accounts pretending to be someone recognizable while posting e.g. referral links?)
No usernames are not unique, there is not even a username system. Posts are tied to your e-mail, so people can see your comment history based on that.
Test…
(no need to approve this, was just seeing if I could change my username which is tied to my email adress)
Yes it works fine, but as you can see your comment history is tied to your e-mail rather than the name used
With in branch sign up, you also lose a 10K referral bonus (correct?). So if my sig other does this, the break point for our household would actually be $16,667. Unless you take into account the referral bonus getting taxed.
Eh, does not seem that exciting.
Good point. Referrals do have the downside of potential 1099.
I was able to get this card at the 15000 points for $500 spend and I didn’t have a “Selected for you” offer. I’m “lol/24” and I had a pop up banner on my Chase homepage that told me I was selected to apply for Chase Freedom Unlimited. I couldn’t find it in my offers page but I still applied because I believed I would be approved due to the terms showing a fixed APR instead of a variable APR. In a year I will upgrade it to the CSR since I am military and therefore be able to keep it long term for free.
Do in-branch pre-approved offers still bypass 5/24?
if you lucky… yes
Yes
Theoretically, would it be ok to put rent via Plastiq on this card and earn 3x all year (those of you who picked up this offer last year- did y’all have luck doing so)? I miss the days I could do so with my CIP.
I used this to pay everything that had a fee less than 3 percent, including pre paying taxes.
No matter the merchant, it’s 3X on every transaction. I’ve done plastiq and venmo throughout the last 11 months.
Bummer. At 4/24…got a few more others I have to pick up first. Maybe next time.
