Our Verdict

Pretty sweet deal, especially if you can work the spend out to just in the $500 area, effectively getting 50% off. I believe all taxes and fees will count toward the $500 threshold, similar to how it works with Amex Offers. Other charges which you charge to the room should be included as well, I’d think.

My wife and I went to Hyatt Ziva Cancun on an award stay; we both have Hyatt cards and both registered for this promotion. We were contacted by the concierge ahead of the stay, I asked about upgrades, he offered Ocean Front for free or Turquoize Tower for $100/night (4 nights). I took the upgrade offer in light of this promotion. We also then went to the spa twice for $700, for a total of $1100 w/the upgrade.

They collected the $400 for the upgrade at check-in, then split the remaining bill so each card was charged for $550 ($150 on card 1 used at check-in, and $550 on card 2 at check-out).

Both credits posted 7 days later.

What do they mean when they say “Offer not valid for purchases made online”? Booking a room on their app does count right? That wording makes me wonder.

anyone knows if, upon request, the resort will charge the CC in full before the stay with a standard booking?

Myself and P2 both have the card. Would like to do a ~$1000 trip, and use my account with explorist status to hopefully get an upgrade (Hers is just discoverist). Do you think I’d need to just charge $500 to her card, or make a booking under her name as well. I know to register you need Hyatt loyalty number so had me thinking a little conservatively here.

I’d think you could just book under you and split the cost between 2 cards.

Sorry for the noob question, but can I get cash back if I make reservation for the resort, or is it only limited to service used within the resort(eg. Massage)?

Would love any data points on whether or not prepaid non-refundable rates are charged immediately. Planning a trip in July.

What does spending directly mean? Does this include the booking fee?
