Our Verdict
There is also the five free night certificate offer (up to 40,000 points per night). Points offer gives you more flexibility but I don’t think either offer really compares to the five free night (up to 60,000 points) that we sometimes see. We won’t be adding this to the best credit card bonus page.
Approved, 3/24. 4 Personal cards, 4 business cards active with Chase. Got a call instantly from the fraud department asking me to verify information. Never happened before. They just asked for zip code and maiden name.
Anyone got matched to 170k with a referral link?
I have a business IHG card. Can I get the bonus from this personal card?
Yes you can. They are two different things.
60K FNCs makes sense if you have something specific in mind and is in the range(also sucks that you can’t top them off). I personally prefer the 170K offer and just applied it for my wife. I used the same offer to book 3+1Free night(40K each) at the Big Island Hawaii($1700 value) and i am still left with 50K points that won’t expire.
You choose wisely.
great redemption. how far in advance did you book that?
About 4 months in advance. FYI there’s also a Holiday inn in Oahu.
Been to that one and it’s wasn’t so great. The rooms were comparable to chicken coops. However, the BI one looks like terrific redemption for the 40k FNCs, thanks for bringing it up!
Which dates did you find for 40k?
Last weekend in July. Availability is very sparse though.
How is the high end redemption rates for ihg? Thinking park Hyatt level.
This value seems extremely fair.
Just looking at Seoul, South Korea for: InterContinental Grand Seoul Parnas (Thursday checking out Sun)
3 Nights Cash = $915 ($305 per night)
3 Nights Points = 159,000 Points.
Appears to be pretty good redemption for some parts of Asia. Points are probably around $700-750 for popular US Cities like Los Angeles.
You can compare 4 nights cash rate to 159,000 points, since the 4th reward night will be free.
Feels like this offer is definitely better than the 5x FNC.
Here’s some simple math: If you stay five nights at a hotel that costs 40,000 points, you would use all five of your FNC. However, if you used points, you’d only used 160,000 (Due to fourth night free, the first four nights would be 120,000 plus 40,000 for the fifth night).
170,000 offer: You have 10,000 points left over plus a free 40K FNC that comes with the card
5x FNC: You have nothing left over and you overpaid for your room since it the points cost is 160,000.
Takeaway: If you’re using the 5x FNC for a one, two or three-night stay, then it makes sense. If you’re booking for four nights or longer, then the 170,000 is better (Also, the FNC expires, but points don’t as long as you have the card)
Merci bouffon. I will follow your advices
Damn, I just spent $500 on purchasing IHG’s points. I’m 3/24 and thinking if I should burn a slot… I was really hoping to grab the new Alaska Premium card that is rumored to come out in April.
You purchased hotel points.. like.. with cash? Not a transfer from a bank point program, like Chase or BILT, etc.? Oh, wow. Bro.
yeah, nothing wrong with that given the value i can potentially redeem out of it. plus, helps with meeting MSR.
Buying IHG points at 0.5 cpp is a pretty good deal. You get more than that in redemption value.
For example we are thinking about going to Atlanta for NYE 2025.
Four days with points at the Hotel Indigo is 125K points/$612.5 dollars.
The refundable rate is $1400.
Sucks. I have both IHG select and premier. My hands are tied, even P2 has select. Should I close both of them or just leave them open?
Have you never heard of churning? Open, earn bonus, close at 1 year, wait required time to open new account when eligible for the next bonus, rinse and repeat.
I wouldn’t sacrifice an IHG Select for this. Just wait for the business card offer.
This card could be a monster in 2 player mode.
Have both parties apply for the card. That’s about 350k IHG points combined after spending 4k each.
For myself, i would have to let go of my Grandfathered IHG-Select that i only have to pay $50 in annual fees, but i think it would definitely be worth it.
only 1750$ total in value though between two people
For something that is supposedly your ‘religion’ you must be new to this because IHG points are not that valuable compared to other hotel and points currencies. It’s fine though, you do you. Hope you pull it off and spend em somewhere nice like the Maldives and not a random Holiday Inn off the highway in Phoenix or some shit.
Can you not hold both the grandfathered IHG select and the IHG premier card? My wife has the premier and I hold the Select currently but was considering adding the premier under my name but don’t want to give up the select as the annual free night for the $50 annual fee is a great deal still IMO.
Never mind, just re read the posting stating the holder may only hold one type of IHG personal card. Guess I’ll be keeping my Select.
I have both!
For a while after Chase launched the Premier card, it was possible to get it even if one had the Select. Then, Chase changed the rules and now if one wants to have Premier they need to cancel the Select and apply for Premier. (Or can product change Select to Premier, but no SUB there).
