Card is now live, more information here.
Marriott’s CMO just made an announcement at the Collision Conference that “a little teaser tomorrow Chase will announce a new Marriott credit card”. I can only assume they are referring to the Chase Marriott Premier Plus, as May 3rd was always the launch date listed. That means that today would be your last day to apply for the Chase Marriott Premier card, currently the sign up bonus is 75,000 points. I don’t think signing up for the regular Premier card makes sense as the launch bonus for the Premier Plus will be 100,000 points.
It also won’t be possible to hold both the Premier & Premier Plus cards, but existing cardholders will receive an offer to upgrade to the Premier Plus. I suspect the upgrade offer will be 20,000 or 25,000 points (that’s the current difference between the Premier an the bonus that will launch with the Premier Plus). If you’re in your first year of being a Premier card holder, when you upgrade you won’t be charged the additional $10 in annual fees.
For those not familiar here are the card details on the Premier Plus card:
- $95 annual fee
- Card earns at the following rates:
- Six Marriott rewards points per dollar spent at participating hotels
- Two points per dollar spent on all other purchases
- Anniversary free night certificate for any property up to 35,000 points
- Silver status, upgraded to gold elite status when you spend $35,000 in purchases each year
- Coming in 2019: Receive 15 nights towards elite status (you can only receive this once regardless of how many Marriott/SPG cards you have)
- Will launch with 100,000 point bonus
This is just an updated version of the Premier card. Annual fee is also increasing by $10. None ‘Plus’ version currently offers:
- $85 annual fee
- 5 Marriott points per dollar at participating hotels
- 2 Marriott points per dollar on purchased directly with the airline, and at car rental agencies & restaurants
- 1 Marriott point on all other purchases
- Anniversary free night certificate category 1-5 properties (up to 25,000 points)
Hat tip to @MGSayah
Looks like the Plus is the way to go. Only $10 more for a more flexible free night cert. I’m in… soon as I’m under 5/24 later this year.
Looking like the free night that comes with this card is superior to the free night offered with the biz card. The biz card is worth up to 25k points, which is currently cat 5 but will not be cat 5 after the switch (it will be category 4). This new card offers up to 35k points with the free night which will include up to cat 5 once the categories change.
William Charles you missed the fact that the ‘None Plus’ version also gives you 1 elite night credit for every $3k you spend.
Any news on what will happen to existing personal premier card holders regarding the 1 elite night credit per $3k spend? Is that benefit going away or will it stay if we do not upgrade the card?
Also if we do not upgrade the card will we still get a cat 1-5 cert on anniversary starting aug 1st or will it be downgraded to a cat 1-4 cert?
Is it possible to get new marriott card if we have the old regular one to double up on these cards or no? What about getting a ritz card too?
Finally how long will the upgrade offer be available for?
I wonder if taking the upgrade offer will reset the one-bonus-per-24-month clock. I just passed the 12 month mark on my Marriott Premier
Looks like it’s live: https://creditcards.chase.com/marriott/apply
Spending $5000 to earn 100K without the first year fee waived seems is not a good deal.
Thanks
Does this also mean that today is also the last day to apply for the Chase Marriot Business card? We already know this will soon be discontinued.
I think this is the info your readers really want!
See above
We don’t have an end date officially for that, if it’s anything like American Express chase will continue to issue the Marriott business card until the two programs merge under the one name.
Wouldn’t it be smart to sign up today then upgrade. Save the AF and same offer with the upgrade. Am i missing something?
That assumes the upgrade offer is definitely 25k points, it could be a lot less.
doc. i missed the part about cant hold both the Premier & Premier Plus cards. where did you see that? i thot the rule was only for sapphire line for now and maybe the freedoms and INKs soon. but not Marriotts or IHG. can u hold multiple IHGs? if not, missed that one too.
They are basically considering them the same card, it’s also listed on the application page on the new Premier plus.
yea. thanks. i see that on the new app page TC now.
Upgrading from premiere to plus in the first year doesn’t make sense though right, or am I missing something? Assuming it’s not under 5/24 and has one bonus per lifetime, you’d be missing out on 75,000 points for $95 (90,000 if you count moving it over to an airline when the programs merge).
why you can only have one bonus per lifetime? It’s not Amex.
You can’t hold both cards and you’re not eligible for the sign up bonus on the Premier Plus if you’ve received the bonus on the Premier within the last 24 months.
