Chase has announced that it will be changing the benefits administrator and underwriter for it’s cards to Assurant (from eClaimsline) on October 1, 2024. In addition there will be a new website chasecardbenefits.com where cardholders can view their benefits and also file insurance claims in one place. In addition coverage will be increasing across a number of products, for example:
- Travel accident insurance coverage from $250,000 to $500,000
- Auto rental coverage: will now include more vehicles, coverage up to $60,000 for eligible vehicles with an MSRP of $125,000 or less
- Emergency Evacuation and Transportation, provider now arranges and provides emergency transportation for qualifying events so cardholder doesn’t have to pay upfront and then be reimbursed
A number of other benefits are also being improved upon. Need to see what the claims process is like but overall seems to be a positive change.
***Big negative change for New York residents with CSP/CSR*** – no more primary rental coverage in the US if you have personal auto insurance:
From the Guide to Benefits – Auto Rental Coverage:
New York Residents, inside the United States coverage is primary unless You have personal automobile insurance in which case it is excess.
From the original email Chase sent in August:
New York residents should review the New York specific coverage terms and limitations for Purchase Protection and if applicable: Lost Luggage Reimbursement and Auto Rental Coverage.
Capital One Venture X still does not have this specific exclusion so I’ll be using that for rental cars going forward.
I personally had a flight cancellation issue, took over 1 year for them to start answering back. Haven’t used them for anything else, but hopefully it’s for the better.
The Chase purchase protection was pretty legit when I used it in 2019. I’d bought a pair of Jabra headphones for $150 and left them in the back of an Uber when I was on a work trip. I’d bought them about a month earlier and filed a claim with Chase. They reimbursed me for a new pair. I was pleased with the service.
Did you have to provide any sort of proof of loss? I always wonder if these sorts of benefits are completely rife with fraud..
they reimbursed you for a lost item?
Is rental car coverage primary or secondary? Makes a big difference.
The coverage with the chase sapphire line is primary. With other cards it’s secondary.
Ritz also is primary

From my experience with Assurant thru Wells Fargo Autograph cell phone protection, they are great. I’ve used them a couple times for a cracked screen and they approve the claim within a couple weeks, no hassle.
cool. sadly i never use purchase protection
CSR auto coverage is DECLINING from $75k to $60k. Let’s be clear.
Looks like they are adding limits to CSP as well (currently actual cash value, no specified limit)
This is awful. When you rent a standard SUV, it will be easy to go over that amount. Depending on the car’s value, it may make more sense to use a premium amex card (and pay the $17.95 flat fee).
which car are you looking to rent which will go over the limit?
Very little chance you’ll hit that limit since it’ll be on the depreciated value of the car.
Most people will rent something like a Yukon XL maximum, which is 65k+taxes at the dealership.
Since cars lose 15-20% when driven off the lot, it’ll fall under the threshold.
12 seater minivans were anyways not covered
Yes. It will be nice to see an actual definition of $125k MSRP instead of “certain high value or exotic cars…” for eligibility, though. Today it makes me nervous when the included status upgrades to a €80,000 car and coverage becomes dependent on how one clerk is feeling today.
Chase has superior purchase protection. Electronics are covered up to 120 days and $500 per device with no deductible. Hope this stays.
$500 feels on the low end… are they really the best in this sense? Wouldn’t cover an iPad fully, wouldn’t cover most iPhones fully…
$10,000 on Chase Sapphire Reserve, Amex Gold, and Venture X. All other chase cards have $500
What have you used this for?
I firmly believe Chase is re-aligning CSRs etc to be “true” travel cards after promoting the heck out of the cards and people who have never been on a plane getting them. In the wake of PP restaurant benefit and Instacart benefit being cut, you’d think some CSR holders had a death in the family. If it continues, it is probably good for the market long term for cards to shed the “status” and just work to the best of their ability in their respective lanes.
Most in the hobby would say the CSR is becoming irrelevant given the evolution of available travel cards.
This comment makes zero sense. The PP restaurants were relevant only to those who frequently were in airports. If they wanted to appeal more to travelers, they would have kept it.
Credit card making a positive change???? Is the sky falling?
Indeed. An “enhancement”? So what’s the catch?
The catch is that it’s on the heels of several cuts

You don’t actually know if this insurance provider is better or worse at claims until you file them. E.g., my BCBS global insurance provider has gas lighted me for 1 year on paying out an emergency evacuation claim.

@George have you tried filing a complaint with your state’s department of insurance? The benefit is a form of insurance.
Typically , when a change is made, it’s not for the customers benefit, but due to a loss of revenue or not working at all. I am banking on the latter.
No but the annual fee will be rising by another $100. Please enjoy a $4 monthly credit at McDonalds. /s
