Our Verdict
Nice savings here. You can buy a gift card like Amazon, Best Buy, or possibly Visa at Walgreens and pay with the card for 20% off. If you find this offer on the Freedom Flex card, if available, since that earns 3x at Drugstores. I found the Walgreens offer on one card and the J. Crew offer on two.
If you haven’t done this deal yet, Walgreens has a gift card deal where you get a free $5 Walgreens gift card if you buy two gift cards of select brands. Most interesting is Best Buy, which seems to have a variable card that goes as low as $15. So you get $30 in Best Buy, $5 in Walgreens, and another $70 of something else (Amazon?), all for $80 after the offer.
When I go to Walgreens store locator it doesn’t differentiate between real Walgreens and Duane Reade stores… does anyone have a way to get around that? I don’t want to go to dozens of stores just to find out they are actually Duane Reade, not real Walgreens. Thank you.
For NYC, Google Maps is differentiating Walgreens and Duane Reade drugstores in my searches.
Can you please post a link? When I search google maps, it shows me all locations as Walgreens, some of which I know are definitely DR.

I have the same question too. Since DR is technically Walgreens, i wonder if chase would honor the same offer for DR purchases.
I went to a store that on Google maps and Apple maps showed as Walgreens… on the outside everything said Walgreens, there was no reason to doubt… until got the receipt which said “Duane Reade by Walgreens”. The charge posted as Duane Reade, it’s been a week, no credit from Chase. I won’t bother with this in the future.
It took 10 days for my $5 grocery offer to credit, so hopefully it will show up. FYI, when I use the store locator on the desktop website for zip 10021, it shows Duane Reade’s labeled as such: https://www.walgreens.com/storelocator/find.jsp?searchCriteria=10021
FYI I went to a Duane Reade (branded as such and all) and ended up getting the credit, just took longer. I made a Walgreens.com purchase on one card and got that credit within a couple days. Made another in person purchase on a different card at Duane Reade – that one took 2.5 weeks but still credited.
I didn’t notice this post when it came out but I just found it when I searched for “Walgreens”. I was going to let DoC know about the offer when I saw it on some of my cards when I logged into Chase today.
Anyway, I read through the comments and saw that a lot of you didn’t have this offer. It might be worth looking again as the offer shows as “New” on some of my cards. I don’t know how long the “New” stamp stays on so maybe it was already available 5 days ago.
