(1/20/18) Fourth Update: Chase tells us that:
The Chase Pay® Best Buy® promo posted on bestbuy.com on 1/17/2018 reflected an incorrect offer amount. The offer is valid for purchases up to $300. Customers that had qualifying purchases between $300 and $400 on 1/17/2018 will receive adjustments to their accounts within the next two weeks.
They’ve also confirmed that the offer is public for all Sapphire cards.
(1/18/18) Third Update: Now emails are going out on Freedom Unlimited and all Sapphire cards. Limit is $300, I’ve updated title. Also added direct links to all cards.
(1/18/18) Second Update: Offer is now rolling out to Sapphire cards. It might also be available on the Freedom Unlimited. *Important* The limit is now showing as $300 even for the Freedom card which was previously showing $400 limit. More details on these changes in this dedicated post.
Update: I’ve heard back from Chase and there is a few important things to note:
- This is only available on the Chase Freedom card. It is not available for Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Sapphire, Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders.
- This is available to all Chase Freedom cardholders. This is not a targeted offer and there is no need to enroll.
- This deal is available to cardholders who participated in the previous promotion (it’s also available to cardholders who didn’t participate in that promotion)
- This deal is a maximum of 10% cash back. You will earn 5% bonus cash back, plus an additional 5% cash back as Chase Pay is a rotating 5% category for quarter one. If you’ve already hit the spending cap of $1,500 for this quarter you’ll receive a total of 6% cash back (5% bonus cash back plus the regular 1% cash back).
The Offer
Direct links to offer: Chase Sapphire Reserve | Chase Freedom | Chase Freedom Unlimited | Chase Sapphire
- Chase Pay is offering 10% cash back when you use Chase Pay at Best Buy on up to $400 in purchases. The above link is for the Chase Freedom, I’m not sure if this also applies to other Chase cards as it did last time.
The Fine Print
- Offer valid in-store only. During the promotional period of January 15, 2018, to February 4, 2018, earn an extra 9% cash back on up to $400 in purchases at Best Buy® when you check out with your Chase Freedom card using Chase Pay.
- The bonus cash back earned is in addition to the 1% cash back you earn on all purchases for a total of 10% cash back.
- Bonus cash back will post to your account within a week of the transaction posting, and will appear on your monthly credit card billing statement and be available for use within 1–2 billing cycles.
- To qualify for this promotional offer, account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment.
- This promotional offer is non-transferable.
- For more information about your rewards program, see your Rewards Program Agreement.
Our Verdict
Shame that this is only for Chase Freedom cardholders and it’s a total of 10% back instead of 15%, but can’t really complain too much. You can view other Best Buy promotions by clicking here. You can only use Chase Pay on Best Buy purchases in store so keep that in mind. No registration is required. Swagbucks is also offering another 2% back in store as well.
Hat tip to reader TA
while this may be moot given both SR and BB offers are over, purchases made in Feb appear to be posting correctly for CSR with 9x multiplier immediately.
CSR 9x points posted today as adjustment (not against the transaction, but you have to go into the UR rewards activity to see this adjustment). Same for Shoprite also.
Any DPs on whether you can spend a total of $300 in two or more separate transactions and still get 10x on each? Or do you only get 10x once, on whatever you spent up to $300?
Separate transactions worked during the December promotion for me. I didn’t try multiple transactions this time.
Bought a $300 BB gift card on 1/23 and used Swagbucks code. 500SB bonus posted on 1/25 but I didn’t get the 2x purchase of 600SB. Anyone have a different experience?
how to use swagbucks. I thought it is only in store.
Anyone notice their CSR not getting the 10X promotion?
Used the Freedom the same day and bought GC but got the points promised.
Lots of people. They just fixed it in the last few days. And those who didn’t get it are started to see 2,700 points post to their UR accounts today.
I can confirm. Paid $360 with my CSR, only got 1x points. I didn’t contact Chase about it, and I have a 2700 adjustment in the UR account.
Heck, it’s even better as these points are available now, not in ~2 weeks when my statement closes.
This is a long-shot, but my phone is jailbroken and cannot open the Chase Pay app. Anyone know of a workaround? I’ve tried multiple tweaks, also tried de-jailbreaking (I’m iOS 10.2 fwiw) but it still detects that the phone is rooted.
Get a dead cheap Android phone.
Same thing. Got response it was targeted but when sent link above and chase rep said to wait. Only have 1x on purchase.
Received the adjustment credit today for purchase of $400 on 1/17 before they changed the terms.
FYI DP for CSR / Reserve: I made a purchase at Best Buy with Chase Pay and only got 1x, sent SM and the rep confirmed the extra 9x should show up within 1-2 billing cycles. Score!
How does it work? I used Chase Pay with CSR at BestBuy, on chase.com it shows that transaction were with Chase Pay, but there’s only 1x points? Also I got the email before.
I received the email offer for both my Freedom and CSR. The Freedom bonus posted correctly. I only received 1x for the CSR. I SM Chase and they responded that I should wait 1 to 2 billing cycles for the post. Not the response I was looking for, but I will set a reminder to follow up in 50 days.
Exactly the same behavior for me. Odd that this would post immediately on Freedom but not CSR.
Sent a SM to Chase about CSR today and they said it should change to 10x within 1 week of posted date!
This happened to me too for CSR. Had to call rep and they gave me the same response. The previous Chase Pay/BB deal in December for CSR instantly posted, so a little weird that this one didn’t.
I also have CSR and made $300 purchase with Chase Pay at BB. A week passed without posting any extra point, so had to call the customer service and received +2700 points adjustment.
