(Update: apparently it’s still possible to do over the phone. Hopefully it’ll come back online as well. Update 2: TPG got confirmation from Chase that it’s still available over the phone.
It used to be possible to add a household member’s card within the Chase online login and combine your Ultimate Rewards points with those of your household member, similar to the way you can combine points between your own cards.
Reader Christopher points out that Chase appears to have removed this option from within the online interface; the system now only shows the option for combining/transfering points between your own cards, not combing with a household members.
An r/chase member notes having the same issue and being told by Chase that they can only transfer now to an authorized user – they can’t simply add an account of a household member.
Those who already have a household member added are able to continue transferring, it’s just the online system no longer has the option for adding a new household member as a transfer option.
Not sure if this is some sort of temporary glitch or if this is a change in policy. In any case worth keeping in mind. Developing…
Anyone ever switch the household member? What are the rules for that?
did you ever find out? wondering the same
I changed it once. Haven’t (yet) tried changing it back and forth multiple times.
Had same issue on my INK card for P2 who I added as an Authorized User. Got “Special handling required. We are unable to process this transfer online. Please call the number on the back of your card for assistance”. I called in and they couldn’t fix it then I called in again and figured out that for Secondary Users, they can only be linked to 1 INK account, so I asked them to transfer my INK points from 1 INK card to the other, which they did and then I was able to transfer for P2.
Mike Your P2 is has an employee card on you Ink? Does your P2 see it in their Ultimate Rewards portal on their personal Chase account? In other words, if I add P2 as an employee to an INK card, can I then transfer points to P2’s Ink card and P2, in turn, can transfer the points to one of their personal cards? Thank you!
After 5+ Calls I was able to link P2 to P1 but not P1 to P2. They will let me transfer P1 to P2 over the phone but the accounts are not showing online. I was told it can take a few hours to show but I don’t believe that since P2 to P1 was instant.
Oh yeah, I had to transfer the min of 1,000 points (P2 to P1) to get the account to save to P2 account. Did the same for P1 to P2 but as of this moment the account didn’t save.
Recently transferred over my P2’s balance over to my account by calling in to link my account and transfer the UR points.
Alas, now with a 0 balance, P2’s account no longer shows my linked account, so we can’t unlink it. Has anyone run into this? I imagine we’ll have to call in for this unlinking process
DP: Just added ~95k from my Ink Cash to my CSP over the phone. Phone call took about 5 minutes, points showed up instantly. A little more annoying than how it used to work, but still painless, and I’m just happy it still works.
Anyone get someone’s household personal card added to their Chase personal account lately by calling in? I tried last week but didn’t have a lot of success, but at least one rep told me “system was down” although other rep was able to transfer a trivial amount of points (without card showing up as a transfer destination online…)
Called again, they said option will show up after midnight tonight…
EDIT: Actually, it’s already there. Sweeet!
It’s showing up online for you??
Yes. I see the card and can transfer to it online.
Called Chase business ink customer service today and the rep was able to manually add the household member (asked for the full credit card number and the name). I was able to view the household member account online after refreshing the webpage and was able to transfer points as usual.
DP: Just called Chase. Nice rep was able to transfer my stash of 90k Ink Chase points over to my CSP very easily. I asked about adding the card to be able to transfer in the future online, was told once she did a transfer it should show up for me to do in the future. Ink cash -> CSP was already added from a couple months ago so i moved 5pts back to Ink, and checked but as I expected, I do not have the ability to transfer CSP -> Ink.
Also asked about linking P2’s new CSP to my current CSP and was told I could do it since I’m an authorized user, but since she has 0 points available she could not do it yet.
At least it was super easy to have points moved over via phone, seems like I might have to just do that going forward. Not a big deal really since P2’s card will be sock drawered and cancelled once I get the SUB, and my Ink is only used for 5% purchases since I got the SUB done.
I called 1-800-493-3319 at 1PM on a Friday, spoke to someone very easy to understand. Pressed 0 after automated info and being authenticated, no wait. If you are having trouble getting through to someone, try that.
This worked perfectly, hooked my Ink up to P2’s CSR. Was connected to someone in under 3 minutes that knew exactly what to do. Thank you!
Hmm… so I was able to transfer points by calling, but don’t see an option to do so in the future in the online interface…
DP: contacted Chase via phone and was able to add partner’s CSP to my UR account for transferring points online. thus to clarify what was not clear to me previously: you can still transfer points online from your UR account to another household member’s UR card account. however now you need to first call to have the card added to your list of cards to which you can transfer, as the online option to do so is no longer available as has been discussed.
thanks as always.
waynedpj What phone number did you call? Just the number listed on the back of your CSP/CSR?
JR yes JR, i just called the phone number on the back of the CSR. good luck!
I am on hold on call 5, CSR #5 or 6, about to hit an hour, trying to add my wife’s CSP to my UR account to combine points (as was the case before for years) or at least have her points transferred. Sounds like some of you accomplished this with a quick call. This has not been my fate and I am losing my friggin’ mind with these people.
Most have no clue, some know but hang up by accident or transfer me nowhere, some need to talk to my wife and some don’t, supervisors don’t know, etc.
