In yesterdays post we found some details out about the Chase Marriott Premier Plus Business card that will be introduced on August 26th, 2018. It looks like that’s the same date that changes to the Ritz-Carlton will also be made. We don’t know what will be happening with elite status and other perks but we do know that they are removing the 10% points premium and the earning structure will be the same as the SPG Luxury card offering the following:
- 6x points per $1 spent at participating SPG & Marriott Rewards hotels
- 3x points per $1 spent at restaurants; airline tickets when purchased directly with the airline; car rental agencies
- 2x points per $1 spent on all other purchases
It is slightly different to the SPG Luxury card though as the Ritz-Carlton is 3x on all restaurants (not just U.S) and includes car rental agencies. Most people will really just want to know how elite status, travel credits and other benefits will work for this card but we will have to wait a bit longer until we know for sure.

Also a DP on approval: I’m probably 20/24 with a TON of denials recently. I also have 6 existing Chase credit cards and i just got approved for the Ritz. All i had to do was move around some credit
theres way too much overlap now. wtf are they doing. hilton used to be a slut, but now marriott is taking it to the next level. total hoe.
hi doc! really want to get the ritz carlten cc, i only care abt the sign up bonus and the $300 annual credit, do you recommend getting the card now, or after the changes, do you think chase would offer a higher sign up bonus? is there a risk the will devalue the annual credit? tnx!
Impossible to know at this stage, I’d probably wait based on other bonuses we’ve seen on this card though.
Still one of my favorite cards as long as don’t lose the $100 Visa DiscountAir benefit and 3 lounge certs per year. I tend to stay at a lot of Ritz’s and the certs and $100 dining/stay is huge. I will usually manufacture the $75k for platinum so the added points for that is helpful.
It will be interesting to see if the $100 Visa Infinite flight discount sticks with this card.
I couldn’t imagine them getting rid of it right away at least if Chase doesn’t want to risk getting hit by the Card act
Yeah I know the leadership of the CFPB is pretty awful right now, but still
Have the status issue finalized yet?
No
With the Marriott takeover, the AMEX Starwood card is no longer worth un-bonused spend and the same can be said of every other hotel card. The AMEX Hilton Aspire card may be useful for some folks but it also is not worth un-bonused spend. American Express is not in an enviable position allied with Delta (the untrustworthy loyalty program that devalues with little notice) and Hilton (so devalued it is almost not relevant). Thus, all spending is now focused on cash back cards with the sole exception of a Chase Sapphire Reserve card. Thank you for a reliably informative blog, Doc.
With all of the Chase shutdowns and Chase 5/24 unwritten rules I’ll go for AMEX any time over chase. I’ll actually go for anyone over Chase.
The new earn rates look nice, definitely an improvement. However, as far as status goes the devaluation of this card is absolutely brutal; no idea why anyone would keep it now. With the SPG Luxury card only pulling the new platinum after 75k spend, it’s safe to say that the Ritz will be the same, even though it earns the existing gold for only 10k spend which is very similar to the new platinum status. No more spending 10k for breakfast benefit and guaranteed 4pm checkouts.
If setting the CL to $1.5k continues to have the AF refunded then $100 discount on airfare for two+ $300 travel credit is relatively attractive still.
The Ritz card is/still is a visa infinite product, right? I thought you couldn’t have an infinite without a 10k min. CL? Can I open it with the 10k CL but then reduce it to 1.5k?
Chase is cracking down. People had gotten banned for doing this.
Could you please share some data points for that, Bob? My wife and I both (accidentally) had the annual fees refunded last year on our Sapphire Reserves with no ill effects
What exactly is this? If you reduce your credit line to x limit you can get the AF auto refunded?
We have no idea what the new status will be on this card, Chase announced they are making updates/upgrades to the card and we still don’t know what they are. I wouldn’t panic yet.
