Update 7/6/21: Account terms seem to be changing as of 8/31/21 and the annual fee will be $550 according to these terms (on next renewal). I suspect this means the $100 statement credit will no longer be offered?
Update 4/2/21: Annual fees are posting at $550 again, but cardholders are receiving secured messages stating they will receive a $100 statement credit.
Update 2/5/21: The reduced annual fee will continue until March 30, 2021.
(Update: readers confirm that the annual fees on cards renewals slated for February 1st will also be the lower $450. We don’t know about March and beyond.)
In April 2020 Chase announced that Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders with a renewal date between April 1 – July 1 would have a reduced annual fee of $450. That was then extended until the end of December. themaskedmoron now reports receiving an annual fee of $450 in 2021, so it seems that the $550 annual fee has been delayed further. New or upgraded accounts still see the $550 annual fee unfortunately.
Called Chase today and was told that the $100 statement credit is ending in July. The rep said I would not be getting it with my August renewal.
I product changed to the Reserve in Feb of this year. Charged the $550 AF. No statement credit offered. 🙁 (still worth it, but I’d like a free $100!)
Of course it changes on 8/31. I’m eligible for a new Sapphire bonus on 9/1, so of course. I’m guessing the current elevated signup bonuses won’t be around then either. If only I’d known back in 2017, I would have signed up earlier!
There might be changes on August 15th. One thing you could do is apply right before the changes, say the 10th or 12th, you’d get denied obviously, then wait until the 1st of September and call recon. You’d get the offer from when you applied. With Chase I wouldn’t wait too long though especially with how widespread these leaks might be. Remember in January of 2020 once the news of the csr going to 550 broke??? They stopped allowing upgrades from the csp to csr for a week because of a “technical glitch” or some bs like that.
The annual fee has been $550 for new signups for over a year, the reduced annual fee was only for renewals.
AF hit 07/01, got $100 credit.
cardholder since 2018
So in your account, do you pay $550 AF and then they automatically give u $100 statement credit after you pay the $550 AF?
yes, same day
Same here, $550 AF hit 7/1, $100 Annual Fee Adjustment also hit 7/1
Opened CSR is June 2021 and the $550 AF posted a few days ago. Isn’t the AF supposed to hit the account in June 2022?
It is not waived the first year. You pay for it now and then in June next year.
I did an MDD in May and got the $550 AF when my first statement hit. Prior to that I downgraded my old CSR after that one’s AF hit at the start of February, and it showed as $450 (not $550 fee/$100 adjustment).
Opened card 6/29, $550 AF hit 7/1, no credit as of 7/6
it’s referring to the AF of renewals not new accounts.
My annual fee on the CSR is due in August and I just received notice by mail of the annual fee hitting $550. Time to close the account.
Yep got that same letter….will downgrade to the CSP when fee comes due.
When did you open the account?
Why can’t Chase just make it fair for all customers to keep it at $450 for the rest of 2021. Seems silly to alienate the folks that have renewals in Q4.
Because AmEx just shoot themselves in the foot.
What does this have to do with Amex?
Really? What do you think the main competitor of the Sapphire Reserve is?
The two products seem to be diverging quickly. At this point the biggest similarity between the two cards is their price.
They both have priority pass and primary car rental insurance
Will miss out on this and didn’t get $150 or $250 either. AF renews in September.
