Chase Sapphire Reserve Pay Yourself Back Categories: Gas, Insurance, Utilites, Gym, Annual Fee (1.25% Cashout)

Update 12/18/24: Categories have been extended through March 31, 2025

Original Post:

Here is the new list of the Pay Yourself Back categories on the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, valid through January 31, 2025:

  • Utilities 1.25 cents per point
  • Insurance 1.25 cents per point
  • Fitness Clubs and Gym Memberships 1.25 cents per point
  • Also available, as before: Gas Stations 1.25 cents per point
  • Also available, as before: Annual Fee 1.25 cents per point
  • (They’ve removed Wholesale Clubs and Pet Stores as options)
  • (I’m not seeing anything above 1% on the INK cards, other than the select charities with 25% bump.)

A lot of people won’t be happy given the removal of Wholesale Clubs. On the other hand, I think utilities and insurance are actually easy categories to use and find these more easily useful.

  • Chase Aeroplan PYB is 1.25 cents per point on Travel purchases and annual fee through 12/31/25.
  • The Chase Southwest PYB 1 cent per point toward cover the annual fee (nothing else is eligible any longer, just the annual fee).
  • The Chase United PYB for the Annual Fee (between 1.5 and 1.75 cents per point, depending on the card version). No expiration date for this one.

Does Comcast/Xfinity internet service count as “Utilities”?

Use your Chase Ink Business Cash credit card for Comcast Xfinity internet, cable, and phone categories. Verify with CardPointers, AwardWallet, or MaxRewards merchant lookup tool apps

Utilities don’t work for me. Literally posts on my Reserve as “City of XXXX – Water Utilities” and Chase won’t let me use PYB at 1.25 cents/pt. Customer service just shrugs when I ask.

Please help me. I have a ton of utilities billed to my Chase INK cards at 1.5x. I also have the CSR. How I can I do the 1.5×1.25 multiplier?

you can earn at 1.5 on the ink and move the points to CSR but wont be able to PAYB on those: you will have to PAYB on travel, gas or something else that gets billed to CSR.
Alternately you can bill some utils to CSR just enough to PAYB using all of your points combined from CSR and Ink.

I have a lot of utilities on my Chase Ink cards. Can I somehow move the purchase to my CSR and get 1.5X back that?

No, PYB is only 1.25X, not 1.5X, like it was in the Covid-19 days.

Yes, they allow PYB on purchases from 3 months ago. That has been a feature since the Covid-19 days, if not before.

Yup, even before. The days of grocery on CSR PYB @ 1.5 were great, with the method of putting the grocery on a CF up to $1500 during a grocery quarter, then PC over to a CSR, then redeem at 1.5.

What is the actual discount you receive by redeeming at 1.25 points vs 1.0 points. For example is it better to use the bank of america 2.625% credit card or the sapphire reserve and redeem?

Basically 20% ($100 charge for 8000 URs). You can factor in how you got the points as well since a lot can be had with 5% categories. Worth it if you have a bunch of UR points that you won’t be using for travel. IMHO of course.
