Update 8/4/23: The 120k offer via referral links is now showing for both the Performance and Premier cards. Also notable, via referral links the expiration date for this offer is showing as 9/4/23 instead of 8/28/23 which makes it now possible to get the Companion Pass with a single card signup – see this separate post for more details.

Our Verdict
This comes with a high spend requirement to get the full bonus. I still consider it a nice offer for the large bonus and the fact that you’ll meet the 135,000 Companion Pass requirement with a single credit card signup. Though The Companion Pass timing isn’t great. It still can be an attractive deal, especially given that it’s available via referral links as well which is useful for someone in 2-player mode.

This is n=1 data. Applied for card after expiration (9/6) but the offer was still there albeit with an expiration of 9/4. TransUnion was frozen so got a letter stating to unfreeze. Decided to wait to unfreeze & reply until 9/29. After confirming that the offer of 120k was applied to the card and some business verification, was told I’d hear back in 1-2 weeks. Approved today. Billing date the 19th. Should be easy companion pass for the next couple years. Thanks DoC!
The credit freeze trick worked- just called to get it approved today. I got 12k by moving credit around.
1) can I apply for 3k extra credit so I can meet 15k in one shot with tax prepayment?
2) What date should I call to make my statement close? I want to meet spend in late December with tax prepayment and then have CP post the first few days in January.
Applied in the night of 9/4, it was probably 9/5 (an hour or so after the promo expired).
app went to internal review…
also i had 5 ink cards + 2 pesonal cards, which i decided to consolidate (lowered the limits significantly on the personal cards, because they are barely used) and consolidated the 5 inks to 3, transferring the business credit limits to the remaining 3 (only keeping what i need to protect my electronic investments incase i need warranty help after manufacturer warranty expires)…
decided to wait a week. called them and spoke to someone in business credit lending team.
approved 9/12. i had the agent verify that the promo was still attached to my account…
Any chance of calling and getting them to honor the deal a couple days after expiration?
Only one way to find out 🙂
doesn’t this have a 24 month rule? If you got the bonus you cant get it again for another 24 months… I did hear that if you get approved than this rule doesn’t apply does anyone have more info on that? also if anyone has a referral link for 9/4 expiration please send it to me
24 month rule applies. There is a separate post for referrals.
As of 8/23/23 I am seeing an offer close date of 8/28/23 which sounds like it would make this entire play impossible. Am I clicking on the wrong link?
as of 8/29 referral links that previously linked to a 120k offer are now redirecting to a 50K offer. I think it’s dead. 🙁
I think I will use a referral link on 9/4/23 to sign up for this card. I will change my statement date to the first of the month and will spend the $3000 between December 1st and December 4th. Then spend another $12,000 as quickly as possible to get the companion pass for the rest of 2024 and all of 2025.
Does this seem to be the best strategy?
Would a good strategy be to get this offer now, but time the 2nd bonus to hit in early 2024 and open a personal card at the end of year for a bonus in early 2024 to get the companion pass for almost all of 2024/25?
Yes, this could work well to do typical CP strategy
That would work, but the offer on the personal card right now is 50k points. That plus the 60k from the business card still leaves you 25k short of earning the CP next year. There are ways to make up the difference but it’s not as straight-forward as using the SUB from the two cards.
Had they offer this after Oct, I’d be all over it.
I can get companion pass for all of 2024 and 2025.
I don’t understand, why can’t you plan the full spend for the beginning of January 2024 then get it for two years? Is it because the points from the first $3k spend are granted this year, ruining the early 2024 timing?
That is correct, Mark. The first tier of SUB points would post in 2022 since you need to spend the amount within 3 months to get that amount. You can only get the second tier of bonus points to post in 2024.
I just want SW to bring back all the pre-COVID routes to the caribbean that they used to have. I live close to FLL airport and have 200k+ points just waiting for this. Please SW, I beg you.
Bring back routes all over the place. They used to be really good, but since Covid they have cut so many direct flights and just flights in general. 🙁
We took a SW flight to Turks a few months ago. The times were ridiculous but we looked at numerous other Caribbean destinations and SW either didn’t fly there, or the flights took an entire day to get there. SW is pretty bad and if we didn’t have companion pass, we definitely would be flying other airlines.
