Update 10/9/24: Reddit user jooni81 spoke to some airport staff and they said the lounge was expected to open in December or early 2025.

According to City of Phoenix documents Chase plans to open a Sapphire Lounge in Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). Here’s what we know so far:

  • Lounge will be in the new eight-gate facility in Terminal 4
  • Lounge will be 3,500 square feet
  • Concourse will open in summer 2022, unclear when the lounge itself will open

So just had a chance to visit PHX last night. My take away:
– excellent bar, A+ drinks
– very limited food options, heat lamp stuff and not very tasty.
– extremely small lounge, laid out in a narrow loop so you pretty much have one set of tables against a wall and then a walkway all the way around the loop. So no “open space” of tables. A couple weird side rooms that would be nice if you weren’t sharing with anyone else.
– open to terminal space, so feels more like you are at a airport restaurant than inside the lounge.
– nice staff (new)
– tight on letting people in. Had a 10 minute wait while I could see most of the lounge from outside and it was sparsely populated. When I got in, I had my choice of 5-10 seats.
– really really really small

Also swung by Centurion and was reminded how far downhill their bar and food had gone in the last couple years.

Fwiw, the sapphire lounge in Boston is light years ahead of this one. I’d say centurions on average still have good drinks and ok food. Sapphires have best bars and are site dependent on food. Cap1 lounges have ok bars and great food.

Does the pay-as-you-go Wells Fargo Signify Priority Pass get a free annual visit to a Sapphire lounge?

Likely not, but does anyone know if Ritz card holders have access? Thanks.

Finally made it to a Sapphire Lounge (LGA) and I was really impressed. Didn’t feel crowded, didn’t have to wait, the options were great, they were incredibly well staffed. I thought US domestic lounges were largely dead but this recent experience gave me hope. Hopefully PHX will be similar.

They are not all the same, for better and worse. For instance, LGA (and BOS) is far superior to JFK, which is tiny, often crowded, and not as good of food, in my opinion.

Good to know, thanks for sharing. Have only been to LGA so far but I walked away impressed. Especially since it’s right next to the always overcrowded and overrated Centurion Lounge.

The new LGA Terminal B has a lot to offer, depending on what cards you have and which airlines you are flying.

Having compared 3 of the 5 lounges, including the Sapphire lounge, Centurion, and the Admirals Club, I definitely agree that Sapphire wins.

In fact, if you start with Sapphire, then go to Centurion, you likely will be disappointed (crowded, not as good of food, etc.), but Sapphire does have windows, so it has that going for it, unlike Sapphire, which is all interior.

I have an upcoming itinerary with Air Canada, so I am going to try the United Club and the Maple Leaf lounge soon. Curious how they will compare.

PHX is only 3500sq feet, so tiny

SAN would be nicer & larger. Looking forward to these (& LAS & others)…

The average airport lounge generates about $7 of net profit per person-visit. Irrespective of quality, it is in the interest of the operator to maximize person-visits . . . all the way up to capacity. There will always be 10 people who “just wanna get in” for every 1 person who leaves because of quality. It’s just something we all have to accept.

You’ll have to be more specific, you could be any one of a number of people.
