The Offer
- Chase Ultimate Rewards program is offering a 60% transfer bonus when you transfer to IHG. Normally you can transfer at a rate of 1:1 and under this promotion that increases to 1:1.6
The Fine Print
- Valid until 11:59 PM ET August 31, 2020
Our Verdict
This is the second ever transfer bonus that Chase has ever offered. The first bonus was 30% to Avios. We keep this page updated with historical Chase transfer bonuses. Unfortunately IHG points are worth far less than Chase Ultimate Rewards points and even with this 60% bonus I don’t think it makes sense to transfer at all. This might be IHG just trying to raise some funds as they have recently launched a new member offer and also an ambassador offer to encourage stays.
Hat tip to Frequent Miler
So, IHG is selling their points for 0.5 cents each. That means that you’d actually end up with more points if you just redeemed the points for cash at 1 cent each (which is still NOT a good deal) and then used the money to buy IHG points, as it would be 1:2 instead of 1:1.6. If you think about it that way, it’s actually pretty crazy that they really think it’s normal to even offer this. Kinda makes the whole thing a joke… really not befitting the Chase brand, at least I’d hope THEY would think that. It basically is them admitting they think their customers are idiots, lol 🙂
That promotion to buy IHG points at 0.5 cents just ran out on July 31st so this is filling in as the “promotion” with the 1:1.6 transfer bonus.
It would have to be 1:3 for me to even consider it.
Chase is so nice for trying to help IHG
I would normally agree but (assuming the 60% bonus is also elite qualifying) you could get Spire elite until at least January 2022 if you transfer 34,375 UR (and 80,000 IHG points with the 25,000 Spire elite bonus award). Worth thinking about possibly?
No.
Does this transfer qualify for elite status?
It takes 75,000 elite qualifying points to reach Spire, not 55,000.
They have lowered the threshold to 55,000 this year.
