Chase United Cards Increase Points Value Towards Annual Fee With Pay-Yourself-Back (Explorer, Quest, Club)

Chase has increased the value of points when using them to offset the annual fee as a statement credit on the Explorer, Quest, and Club Infinite Cards.

  • United Club Infinite $525 annual fee costs 30,000 miles (1.75 cents per point)
  • United Quest $250 annual fee costs 15,625 miles (1.6 cents per point)
  • United Explorer $95 annual fee costs 6,250 miles (1.52 cents per point)
  • United Business Explorer $99 annual fee costs 6,600 miles (1.5 cents per point)

Previously this was 1.5 cents on all cards. I updated this the other day in our main PYB post and thought it worth highlighting here separately.

I just got the quest last week – can I do this for the first annual fee or just renewals?

In Berlin, United is only game in town for direct flights to the US of A. (Delta just added summer-only flights direct to JFK, so maybe they’ll stick around?)

Delta added a year-round schedule for flights to BER-airport but then canceled all their flights their from Oct onwards with no more planned at this time, but yes hoping they do actually stick around! However, DL’s probably the last one you want to see added to the airport if what ur looking for a good value award flights :/

Any word on if the Club business had a similar change? $450 AF for the biz is normally the better deal to club membership imo, but if it’s also still 1.5¢/pp like the other business then it’s a wash as they’d both need 30,000 pts to cover.

Also, anyone know if points transferred from UR can be used for this?

Sounds like I good deal, especially if you have extra miles sitting around in your account.
I personally like the United Quest card the most – best value if you fly a few times a year, but not enough to have status.

30K miles is what I’ve been paying the last couple years for the Club card. Not as much a discount as a roll-back to what the price was last year. Still it’s probably enough to make me reconsider canceling the card.

Reminder: you can cancel via Secure Message to avoid hearing that you can pay the AF with points.

All of the award flights I normally take went up at least 20% and some much more. I will be dumping my United cards (Explorer and business) when the annual fee rolls around.

Yep, this is lipstick on a pig. UA has systematically stripped Mileage Plus of value. I have one UA card that I never use and I’ll dump it when the AF hits next year.

If memory serves, their CEO whined a couple years ago about nobody using UA credit cards. Here’s some advice: Get a better product and/or a better FF program. I put up with UA’s trash airline (compared to Delta) for a long time since their FF program was good for overseas J redemptions.

Not anymore.

Actually better value than spending your miles booking flights, sadly..
