Chase United Quest Card Changes ($350 Annual Fee)

Chase has made some changes to the United Quest card:

  • Annual fee now $350 (was $250)
  • Instacart+ Membership
  • Up to $180 in Instacart credits. Receive one $10 Instacart credit and one $5 Instacart credit monthly, up to $180 total each calendar year, for purchases made directly through Instacart with your United Quest℠ Card
  • Up to $150 in credits for Renowned Hotels and Resorts for United® Cardmembers
  • Up to $100 in credits on rideshare purchases ($8 back as a statement credit each month from January through November and up to $12 back for the month of December)
  • Up to $80 in United travel credits on Avis or Budget purchases (Receive $40 in United® TravelBank cash, up to $80 annually, for your 1st and 2nd Avis or Budget car rental booked directly through opens link in new windowcars.united.com Third-party website disclaimer and paid for with your United Quest℠ Card)
  • Up to $150 in credit on JSX purchases Get up to $150 back as a statement credit annually when you book flights directly with JSX using your United Quest℠ Card

Hate that Chase is following American Express’ coupon book strategy. In isolation you’re getting a lot more value from the modest $100 annual fee increase but all of the credits are difficult to use (e.g two instacart credits per month of only $10/$5). The card also wasn’t worth keeping long term before so this arguably makes it even worse. Some people will find value in the new benefits/annual fee increase but I just find these credits a pain.

It’s also possible to generate referrals for the new Chase United cards when you change “215f” to “215r”. Please do not share your referrals in the comments below.

United Club card drops Star Alliance lounges unless you have Premier Gold status or spend $50,000 on the card. So far, no change in annual fee. From the email:

“Effective August 1, 2025, your United Card comes with our United Club membership plan exclusive to Cardmembers. With the change, your United Club Card membership includes access for one guest and dependent children under 18 and no longer offers Star Alliance and other partner lounge access.”

“Want to earn All Access?  United Club All Access members enjoy additional benefits. As a Cardmember, you can unlock All Access membership by earning Premier® Gold status or by spending $50,000 on purchases each calendar year.*”

Correction, AF went up to $695. Pay more, get less.

I was denied access to a Star Alliance club back in 2022 while holding the Club card, still salty about it.

What pisses me off is that this shows that chase can still do Instacart credits and yet they’ve switched over to the worthless doordash credits for the CSR

I’m not a fan of coupon books, but the changes aren’t as bad as some people are making it out to be.

They’re bumping the TravelBank cash up to $200 and you still get priority boarding + 2 free checked bags for 2 people. The twice-per-year bonus miles perk is now a 10,000 mile anniversary discount which might be easier to use (TBD). Just these perks cover a $350 AF. The new “partner credits” are an added bonus on top of that. They seem totally optional.

Hopefully the monthly rideshare credit works for things like Uber Cash reloads. If not, it’s worse than AMEX Gold’s $10/month Uber Cash. The monthly Instacart credits sound annoying but I’m kinda used to that after dealing with the CSR’s recent Instacart credits. I’ll be fine if Aldi pickup still works. I wish the Instacart+ was included instead of “3 months free, then 50% off an annual plan” but it’s better than nothing.

$40-80 toward Avis/Budget is good for people who use them. Personally I only use Enterprise and Sixt so idc. The $150 JSX credit could be useful since I’m near one of their airports (TBD). I don’t care about the $150 “Renowned Hotels and Resorts” credit but I’m sure some people can use it.

Overall, annual fee increases are never welcome, but it’s easier than ever to offset the Quest AF.

Does that mean that the 5K back bonus on two award flights is now gone, immediately?

Exactly. I have a couple of flights next month which were reserved specifically to receive the miles, so I can’t take advantage of the “discount” this close to the flights…

Vote with your wallet. Amex is finding huge success so they keep doing it.

How dare you say such lies. Save our gracious King! He will vanquish the ‘enemies’ and restore the natural order. Fear not, there will never be a recession. It is impossible.
