The Offer
- Choice Hotels is offering a bonus of 5,000-8,000 points when you stay twice between March 7, 2020 and April 26, 2020
The Fine Print
- Registration required at www.choicehotels.com/freenight before the first qualifying check-out.
- The promotion is only available to members of the Choice Privileges® Rewards Program who register for this promotion, and then make two separate qualifying stays at participating hotels (WoodSpring Suites® hotels and Ascend Hotel Collection® all-inclusive resorts, among others, are not participating) with arrival between March 7th, 2020 or later and both stays completed by April 26th, 2020. A “stay” is any number of consecutive nights at one hotel regardless of check-ins or check-outs.
- A “qualifying stay” is a stay that is during this promotion at a participating hotel through a qualifying channel (see Qualifying Channel, below) that is eligible to earn Choice Privileges points. Most stays are eligible to earn Choice Privileges points EXCEPT: rooms booked at rates below $40 USD per night, certain hotel initiated promotions, reward night stays, complimentary rooms, rooms paid for as part of a convention or meeting, rooms booked through a travel agent or third party online retailer including online travel agencies, wholesale packages, group tours, and stays booked using the employee discount or the friends and family discount.
- Stays at vacation rental property locations and Choice Hotels® properties in the following countries are excluded from this promotion: Japan, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia. You must maintain an address in the U.S. (includes U.S. territories) or Canada to be eligible.
- Registered members will be awarded a minimum of 5,000 to a maximum of 8,000 bonus points after the second qualifying stay. The number of bonus points awarded depends on the number of base points earned from the two separate qualifying stays, with points varying by hotel. The total of base points plus bonus points awarded, however, will be at least 8,000 points, which is the number of points required for a future free night at over 1,000 Choice® hotels worldwide (see Free Nights, below).
Our Verdict
Not the biggest promotion, but might as well register for it just in case.
I stayed at two seperate Best Western’s and used the free night certificate recently
Found a decent hotel at $77/night (stayed there once in past; no issues).
What do y’all value these points at?
Mike likely from .6 to 1 cent
It depends where you travel in the future. There are nice Choice hotels in Tokyo which are typically 8000 points per night. There a very nice Choice hotels in Scandinavia (including some in the rural parts along the beautiful fjords of western Norway) that are 16000 points but expensive in cash. (And in both of these places, you can only burn North American Choice points, not earn them, because it’s technically a separate Choice program there. But that’s also why the Choice hotels are even nicer there.) Even in London, there are decent Choice hotels for 8000 points while the “big” brands want 5x or more the number of points.
Even in the USA, there are places where decent Choice hotels (though you have to check the individual hotel reviews) need comparatively few points in an expensive city while the main hotel programs want tons of points for just a slightly better room.
So that’s on the redemption side. On the earning side, I particularly like Comfort Inn, and some Ascend properties (though you do have to check individual reviews) the most, and in many suburban locations they nicely prices for earning during promos like this.
Since it’s 5000-8000 extra points per stay, try to make your stays only 1 night each, “hotel hopping” if possible, to maximize earnings during such promos (which Choice has at least 2 or 3 times each year).
guess that if finding a $40/n, it may be worth doing
Registered and signed up my employee accounts as well. We’re going to have hotel stays regardless, so why not get a few extra free points? 🙂
Thanks DoC!
Dude you make your employees stay at choice hotels?
Why not? I’ve found many Comfort Inn / Comfort Suites to be pretty decent and a good value. I also put them in Best Westerns, Marriotts and Hiltons. With about a 100 room nights a year the cost adds up so we look for the best value we can get.
true, they do have a couple good brands. Most of the ones in my area are the not-so-good brands 🙂
