The Offer
- Citi is offering a $325 checking bonus when you open a new checking account and complete the following requirements:
- Open a new eligible Citi® Checking account with Enhanced Direct Deposits, and enroll in this offer by applying directly from this page.
- Deposit at least two (2) Enhanced Direct Deposits directly into your new checking account within 90 calendar days from account opening. Your total combined Enhanced Direct Deposits must equal $3,000 or more.
- Your cash bonus will be deposited into your open, eligible Checking Account within 30 days after you successfully complete all required activities.
The Fine Print
- An EDD is an electronic deposit through the Automated Clearing House (“ACH”) Network of payroll, pension, social security, government benefits and other payments to your checking or savings account. An Enhanced Direct Deposit also includes all deposits via Zelle® and other P2P payments when made via ACH using providers such as Venmo or PayPal. Teller deposits, cash deposits, check deposits, wire transfers, transfers between Citibank accounts, ATM transfers and deposits, mobile check deposits, and P2P payments using a debit card do not qualify as an Enhanced Direct Deposit. (Note: see this comment about Zelle.)
- So long as you have not owned a Citi checking account in the last 365 days, meet Tax Requirements, and are at least 18 years old, you can apply to participate in the Enhanced Direct Deposit Checking Acquisition Offer (“Enhanced Direct Deposit Offer”) (click the Offer, Product & Pricing Information link at the top of the fine print to see this)
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
Regular & Access Checking fee waived:
- in the month of account opening and for 3 months after account opening or
- each month the account has $250+ in Enhanced Direct Deposits
Early Account Termination Fee
In the past, Citi has not charged any ETF, and none is mentioned for this offer.
Our Verdict
This is better than the $200 checking bonus we previously saw. There is also a checking bonus for up to $2,500 but that requires huge deposits. This smaller bonus will be a better option for most people as those huge deposits aren’t required. I do think now that this is $300 it’s worth doing and we will add it to our best bank bonus page. You can see the definition of an enhanced direct deposit here.

is the following correct -> I can deposit $30k into the checking account and get the $750 bonus after 90 days AND also open a savings account and move the $30k to the savings account AND receive the 4.25% promotional savings rate for 3 months?
Can I close the bank right after I get the bonus or should I wait a bit? I see no early termination fee, but feels possibly dangerous (?) to open, receive bonus, and close within 1 month….?
It’s good practice to at least wait until the following calendar month after receiving a bonus to close it but technically, you are free to close it now.

Hi Eric,
Can I freeze my chex and apply for both the citi checking $750SUB promo and savings 4.35% APY promo? TIA!
That depends. Are you a current customer of Citi (ie have a credit card). If so, based on my own experience, you should be able to freeze your Chex and still get approved for a Checking account. My DP is somewhere buried on this page. Let me know if you want me to find it for you.
I am unsure of what Savings bonus that you are referring to but it’s likely that it shouldn’t interfere with the Checking bonus.
Hi Eric,
Thanks for the helpful expert information, much, much appreciated! My apologies, for not mentioning that I had received a citi mailer, offerring a savings acct 4.35% APY for 3 months with a min 25k deposit promo offer.
what do you mean by freeze your chex? in my case i only have a citi credit card…also wondering if i can do both promos ($750 checking bonus + the 4.25% savings rate)
Go here for info about accessing your Chex report online: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/you-can-now-receive-your-chexsystems-report-online/
Once you do that, follow these steps to freeze your Chex. BTW, I recently froze my Chex so I typed up these steps (just for you) by looking through my print screens.
#1. Login to Chex.
#2. Click on “Security Freeze”.
#3. Click on “Continue”.
#4. Click on “Go to Dashboard”.
#5. Repeat steps #2 and #3 and it should show “Security Freeze Already Exists”. That’s how you confirm that your Chex is frozen.
#6. Retrieve the PIN from your messages as you will eventually need to this to unfreeze your Chex.
Hi All,
Can someone please confirm that I can open both the citi checking $750 SUB offer and savings acct 4.35% APY offer together with my chex report frozen? Also, please confirm citi pull EWS for both the checking and savings new acct opening. TIA!.
Being able to open Citi deposit accounts with Chex frozen is going to be YMMV. I’ve done it, but I am a Citi CC holder.
They will likely pull EWS for both the checking & savings, but I believe same day inquiries from the same entity will merge. I wouldn’t let that stop you from doing the offer(s).

Opened 2/18/25 2 deposits of roughly a bit over 1500 each via Wise 3/6/25. Bonus posted 3/23/25.
Opened in branch, rep expedited debit card delivery and I received it in 2 days. Registered the checking account online and it made me use my existing user id. Activated debit card through online dashboard and reset the PIN there. Auto generated PIN probably still making its way through snail mail, unless somehow my old card’s PIN was tied to the card. The expedited debit card order the bank rep placed generated a “We received your ATM/DEBIT card replacement request” email with the last four digits of my old card referenced. The PIN reset emails also showed the last four digits of my old debit card. Kinda odd.
Tried to add external accounts with manual verification and got this error:
“Looks Like We Couldn’t Verify This External Account
We aren’t able to verify this account right now.
Please try adding a different account.”
So I locked my account by being dumb and trying to zelle the $ out 3 days after the initial transfer. I called, and they said nothing we can do until you get a letter in the mail from us with a reference code blah blah. It’s going on 3 weeks now with no letter in the mail. Anyone else that got locked out, how did you go about getting it resolved? Can hardly understand them over the phone, they don’t seem to have a single person in the US to transfer me to.
Second time I’ve done this bonus. Opened a few days after closing a year ago.
