Our Verdict

Citi recently made some major changes to this card including the annual fee increase and authorized fee increased along with some additional credits. I don’t think this card is worth holding long term, but if you can use the benefits and miles then this is a good bonus on this card and I don’t see it going higher in the future. We will add it to the best credit card bonuses.

Does the admiral club membership get you into AS and OW lounges on domestic flights?

And looks like the lyft credits are pretty useless unless you regularly take 3X rides per month…

AA miles are going down the drain, united way. No Business class seats available to India at 70k on AA/Qatar or Etihad. No availability for a year from now…

Etihad usually opens up some award seats within 30 days of the flight. And Qatar randomly sometimes opens some availability here and there. Its not in AA’s control when the partners decide to make award seats available.

this ain’t it lol, AA is still the best points to burn until a future speculative nerf. Etihad does open seats, there was JFK-AUH <-> award availability dump, and there are LHR-AUH Apartment availability. They will be devalued like Alaska soon but I saw plenty of AA award availability to India via tracker in December too.

Is there still a Citi gold discount for this card ?

I am told that Private Client still gets the annual fee waiver. Supposedly it will be credited back to your account automatically shortly after it posts.

Wow a waiver would be nice. I think citi gold gets you $145 off. I wonder why they don’t advertise this.

The coupon book trend with the food delivery (never use) and ride-share (use only a few times a year) credits are for me making these cards a bad deal outside of the SUBs.

Does anyone know if the 10,000 loyalty points at 50,000 and 90,000 count as miles or only loyalty points?

Meh. 100,000 sounds good but for $595 that’s not great value. You have to think about it like an Amex Plat. Would you do the 100k plat offer? hell no. Unless this ever goes up to 150K (which it won’t) I don’t see much value in this.

Ehh I think you can easily extract the value out of right now. Sure, the AF is high but AA still has the best partner award pricing. 115K in F from JFK > AUH is pretty darn good value. And you should basically earn that by meeting the AF. Admirals lounges also are less full than Delta ones if you have one in your market. Not to mention, the partnership with BILT ending limits earning opportunities for AA miles. If the suspected deval comes soon, and it does seem likely, this only makes sense if applying now and if you can meet the spend requirement and book quickly.

Was able to take advantage recently, but didn’t know about the change Jenny is speaking of. The math changes some then although I do still see a decent amount of Q Suites availability if you’re willing to book last minute.

QSuites are unavailable even for last-minute bookings, and is available to/from the US for only a few days over the next year.

As with any offer, we apply the math and see what is most advantageous. We don’t cherry pick what costs/benefits to include/exclude, other than in the application to our plans/situations.

Arguing that AA miles are ~1 cpp, which is probably too low. Not to mention putting some value on the benefits, even if they dupe other ones.

EASY to use the rental car credit 2x before next annual fee hits. And easy to use the 10 dollar grubhub credit to eat once a month for pickup. After those credits the effective annual fee for first year is 235. I can easily extract 235 dollars worth of value out of 10k AA miles. So 90k free for me plus the additional 10k for spending 10k. Plus lounge access! Even though the AA lounges typically suck it beats spending 7 dollars for a coffee in the airport and its a nice place to chill and charge my things. Easily worth it in first year. Also AA miles are worth more than 1 CPP. If you get anything less just stick to cash back.

Seriously? FYI, yes this card offer is 40K miles worth $100 to $400. YOU have to pay the massive $600 annual fee which is equivalent to 60k to sometimes 200k Disaadvantage miles because most of the time , one way domestic non stop coach cost 50000 AA miles, worse on international. Once in a blue moon when you are lucky, they release saver awards but most of the time it is a rip off!

I just got sfo-pek in JAL J (worth almost $8k) for 75k AA miles but ok.

Maybe Travis is an AA insider who can buy points at ~1 CPP (cents per point)? Otherwise, for the rest of us mere mortals, even buying points directly from AA @ ~1.8 CPP tends to be an amazing value if you enjoy flying business class.

Just like Zephyr, I often see great availability for SEA/SFO-TYO on JAL business for 60k AA with great availability. These tickets retail for $6-11k, making AA among the most valuable airline points.

For those who struggle with math, $6000/60,000 is a value of 10 CPP, so using Travis’s logic, this sub is worth 100,000*$.10 = $10,000. Personally, I wouldn’t necessarily value AA that highly, but 10 cents is still a much larger number than 1 cent.

You clearly haven’t done much research on AA miles – they are currently the best value for US airlines. I’m on a flight now across the country for only 7500 miles.

yes, unbiased, zero rosy paint picture truth. this card offer is 40K miles which is around $100 to $400 max after YOU PAY the massive $600 annual fee

CW (@guest_1843138)

your math isn’t mathing. 100,000 aa miles is worth way more than $1,000 depending if you’re near an AA hub like i am at DFW. DFW to CDG economy round trip non stop in June is $1300 right now. in miles its 54000 + $70 fees.

DFW to FCO is $2000 for June nonstop round trip right now, $1900 at its cheapest in the past 60 days according to google, in miles its 54000 + $70 fees

the miles aside,
is this credit card is worth it by itself? For most people, probably not. Is it fun for me since I live at DFW and could use the admirals club at terminals with no priority pass lounges? yea. Would I hold on it after the bonus? probably not.

once again, I am NOT paying your massive rip off $600 annual fee. minus that and the card is 40k miles bonus offer which is equivalent to $100 to $400.

AA hasn’t devalued since 2016. Speculation based upon podcast:
Vasu Raja doubled down on saying that partner price changes are coming in his presentation to employees at the airline’s “State of the Union” following its fourth quarter earnings call this past week, a recording of which was reviewed by View From The Wing.
