Citi has released the 5% categories on their Dividend card for the third quarter of 2020, July through September:
- Home Improvement Stores
- “Home Improvement stores includes home supply warehouse stores, lumber and building materials stores, paint and wallpaper stores, wallpaper stores, hardware stores, nurseries – lawn and garden supply stores, glass stores, and paints, varnishes, and supplies stores. You will not earn extra cash back at florists’ supply stores, nursery stock and flower stores.”
- Popular streaming services
- “Select Streaming Services includes the cable, satellite, and streaming providers listed below: Amazon Prime Video, CBS All Access, fuboTV, Netflix, Pandora ,Showtime, Sling TV, Spotify, Starz, Vudu, YouTube Premium, YouTube TV”
Quite underwhelming. Remember that with the Citi Dividend there’s no $1,500 limit, it’s just an annual $300 cashback limit, so you can spend a full $6,000 in a single quarter on the 5% category and get $300 back. A lot of people already maxed out 2020 on supermarkets in Q1 and drugstores in Q2.

Huh. I’m not sure why some see it as such a disappointment. I saw the headline and said “hey, great, that’s a category I can use!” I guess everyone’s different.
What makes it great for me is that, not only do I spend a lot at home improvement (lawn and garden, tools, home repairs, kitchen gadgets, painting supplies, etc.), home improvement is one category which has stubbornly refused to accept NFC payments (e.g. Google Pay/Apple Pay), at least around here. Every Menards, Home Depot and Lowes has old fashioned chip terminals. By contrast, places I can use Google Pay I can already score 4.5% (USBank Altitude), so for categories like Grocery, for example, getting 5% on grocery isn’t of that much interest because it’s only 0.5% more than I can get by using Google Pay.
“Select Streaming Services includes the cable” does this include regular cable bill ?
would fios cable service be included?
Too bad they don’t allow product changes to it anymore.
I’m glad i maxed out my Dividends already.
Makes glad that I went through the max 5% category last quarter.
This announcement is underwhelming.
they need to bring this card back, why they ever stop it
Im guessing chase will be wholestore or restaurants.
That’s what i was thinking too.
Do you mean Chase Freedom? They haven’t had a restaurants quarter for several years. I’d love to see it come back.
Discover Q3 is 100% restaurants. But chase freedom does not have that.
