Update 9/25/23: According to a source close to FM, these cards are being shelved and won’t launch anytime soon. Chances are this is due to restructuring at Citi. I’d be surprised if we didn’t see some sort of Citi Premium card launch in 2024, but it’s seemingly not happening anytime soon.
Update 8/28/23: These cards are getting closer to finally launching. The Citi Strata Elite will compete with the American Express Platinum with a comparable annual fee and ‘coupon book’ credits. Overall doesn’t look super compelling from what I’ve seen but Citi might tweak the offerings before launch.
Update 3/7/23: Citi is now soliciting ideas on how to elevate their concierge offering. Hat tip to Which Card To Get?
Update 2/9/23: A commentator on FM states this card will launch in late April and earning rates will surprise some. As always an unverified rumor but speculation is fun.
Citi has filed trademarks for the following:
- Citi Strata Premier (filed on December 14)
- Citi Strata Elite (filed in September)
Both applications state that that these are for credit card products. Citi stopped applications for the Citi Prestige in 2021, so it’s possible that the Strata elite could replace that product. Sometimes these trademark applications lead to new products and sometimes they don’t lead to anything.

So I guess Citi got cold feet? Any idea if this rumor is legit?
I’m hoping for a great credit card with a tie-up with Citigold. The Prestige had a discount with Citigold. Maybe a discount with a Citigold and maybe a higher tier version similar to the JPMorgan Reserve card with more benefits (e.g. American Airlines Admirals Club Membership) for Citigold Private Client.
Any updates? Eagerly awaiting any more news/sources!
Doc you can’t abandon us with a tease like that
Lee’s been awfully quiet… where are you Lee?
Citi is probably gonna end up with the inflexible coupon book similar to Amex…. Based on the AA card they launched
Not a fan of coupon book benefits.
Given the hype this card has created, I would be very disappointed if the cashback rates are < 2%.
Just beat CSR and I’ll get it. Very sick of 20% of all places I go to doesn’t accept Amex. (From someone who goes to Asian stores and restaurants.)
I’ve run into this a lot lately at surprising locations. Auto shop wouldn’t take AMEX, neither would a pool supply store. Got an AMEX offer for credit on internet service… CenturyLink doesn’t accept AMEX!
Hopefully they don’t force upgrade my Prestige to this.
Still an amazing card for the 5x.
And 4th night free. Churn Citigold one time, $350 annual fee for life.
Kafka Hey, could you explain this? Does Citigold ever downgrade after you qualify for it once? I qualified for Citigold back when the accelerate savings account was competitive but moved my money out in February and still have not been downgraded. I don’t have the Prestige but was wondering if I can still get my subscription rebates ever year. Thanks!
They will be changing the qualification requirements for it pretty soon. You’ll need $200,000 to start and $180,000 to remain in it. Downgrades will occur every 3 months if you don’t maintain the appropriate balance. Family balances can be combined for people living at the same address now, though. https://www.citi.com/banking/compare-bank-accounts
Jon Thanks! Wow, I was not aware Citi is completely changing their banking. It seems that account packages were discontinued on 8/21/23 and that existing customers are being converted to “simplified banking” on some “conversation date”. Reading about it, it doesn’t say anywhere when this conversion will be but it sounds like it could be optional with language like “Until you convert to simplified banking” etc. If everybody is getting converted though, it seems I will stay in Citigold during the month of the conversation date and 3 full months after before being “re-tiered out” so at least I’ll have it for a bit longer. Thanks for the information.
I agree. Im hoping for these benefits:
7x Air Travel/Restaurants (On Airlines sites, no BS portal).
5x Hotels (On Hotel Sites, no BS portal)
2x All Purchases
$350 Travel Credit (Easy to use)
4th Night Free (NOT ON PORTAL, They always overcharge)
Clear Benefit AND NEXUS (Not Global Entry/TSA Pre)
Some Sort of Hotel Status Benefit
Some Sort of Airline Status Benefit
Get rid of the cruiseliner shit, get rid of all travel insurance and protections
Lol dream on
I remember my first beer.
I’m hoping for 100x everywhere and a $5,000 annual anything credit for a $95 annual fee.
