Citi Loses Garuda Indonesia As A Transfer Partner

Garuda Indonesia is no longer showing as a transfer option for Citi cardholders. Garuda was removed without notice and it’s unclear why it was removed and if it will ever be added back in the future. Garuda wasn’t a common transfer option for most people, although they occasionally had things such as 90% off award flights that made it worth it. No other flexible point currencies offer Garuda as a transfer partner.

TIL: this airline existed.

Those 90% deals seem great though.

We flew them for some Indo domestic flights over 10 years ago and they were ok, better than Merpati which were a horrorshow. Apparently they’ve been in the top 10 on Skytrax for a while now. They’ve also won best cabin crew 5 years in a row but were unseated by SQ this year.

Garuda used to fly from the US west coast to Indonesia, via HNL and Biak. I did a couple of round-trip runs that way in the early 90s. the service was average back then, but I always enjoyed practicing speaking Indonesian with the flight attendants.
