Citi Prestige $250 Travel Credit For 2020 Can Be Used At Supermarkets and Restaurants

The Citi Prestige $250 annual travel credit will be able to be used at Supermarkets and Restaurants (including takeout) as well between May 1 and December 31, 2020. There’s still just one $250 credit, but if you have not yet used it, you can now use it at either Travel or Supermarkets/Restaurants and get the statement credit.

This change hasn’t yet been communicated with cardholders, but Frequentmiler received this info from the Citi PR team.

  • This has been working. And as far as redeeming thank you points on the citi prestige, I redeemed them for a check for my mortgage payment at 100:1. After I completed this, the CSR advised me that because I had the prestige card that I could redeem for cash at 100:1 too. So 55,000 points equaled $550.

  • Has this been working for people? The customer service rep I'm chatting with doesn't know anything about this supermarket/dining credit, saying it only applied to travel

    • Same question Sid. I spent about $30 on several transactions at Safeway throughout June. My statement closed July 1st and when I woke up this morning on the 2nd to review there was nothing unique.

      • Follow-up: I found the e-mail from May 13 regarding this benefit change from Citi for my prestige.
        Suggests (unlike my experience with legitimate travel credits that I may have to wait 2 billing cycles for a credit.
        "Citi will automatically post available Travel Credit(s) after eligible Travel Purchases appear on your statement. Please allow one to two billing cycles after the qualifying purchase is charged to your Card Account for statement credit(s) to be posted to the account."

    • Helpfully (not) it's not on the website and the regular chat staff knew nothing about it. I did talk to an agent in the benefits department who confirmed that this is correct and it's only for this year, which is why Citi thinks it's a good idea to hide it, presumably.

  • Why do people still have this card given the higher annual fee and stripped benefits?

    • Eh, using the 4th night free benefit on one $250/night hotel stay and the $250 credit covers the fee, and 5x on dining is still great. Not saying it's as good as CSR, just that the math works for many people. Also, better benefits for those who are all-in with Citi.

    • You know for me I use the 5x restaurant benefit. The 4th night free benefit and travel credit pays for the card itself (I just use it for business travel). Priority pass and cell phone coverage is just an extra benefit.

      I use my platinum card for all air travel related stuff and lounge access (minus the restaurants which I then use the priority pass for).

      Not for everyone, but it has a place in my wallet.

  • Any word if Prime Now orders from Whole Foods will code as Grocery for this credit and/or the 5x? Looking at my last statement it shows up as “Merchandise - Misc / Speciality Retail Store” so that doesn’t seem promising....

      • Uhhhh. Whole Foods codes as a supermarket under every major credit card so you’re entitled to your own opinion but Whole Foods is 100% a supermarket according to every major credit card that offers a bonus on supermarket spend.
