Citi Sending Out Offer to Product Change to Rewards+ Card

Many people are getting an email offer from Citi to product change one of their Citi cards to the new Rewards+ card. This offer is being sent out on various card, I got it for the Dividend, and others got it for the Double Cash, and other cards.

If you got this email offer, you have until March 15th to do the switch electronically via the link in the email. A lot of people had luck product changing by simply calling in. Even those who were unsuccessful, they were told they’d be able to do so after January 27th.

You won’t get a signup bonus when doing a product change, but the bonus is a bit low at 15,000 points. Most people would rather reserve their ThankYou bonus for the Premier or Prestige being that the Rewards+ is grouped in one ‘family’ with those cards.

Remember that product changing may reset the 24-month bonus clock (if your card number changes); plan out your move before doing so. Cards like Double Cash and Dividend don’t matter much, but cards like ThankYou or American Airlines do. Based on the comments to this post, it appears that conversions from another ThankYou card (e.g. Preferred > Rewards+) are clearly stated in the email as keeping the card number the same, while conversion from non-ThankYou cards (e.g. Dividend > Rewards+) are clearly stated in the email as getting a new account number. This is in line with the general rule that product changes within a card family don’t get new card numbers while changes outside do.

Hi! I just got an offer (October 2019) via mail to PC my Simplicity to the Rewards+. Before now, I don’t believe you could PC the Simplicity so I jumped on the offer!

Can anyone tell me if this will appear as a new account on my credit report (and my current Preferred one will be closed) or the age of the account will not change? My Preferred is my oldest account and I don’t want to lose it as it would damatically lower the age of my open accounts on my credit report.

Has anyone product changed to this from AA platinum? I have TY Premier and AA Gold and my AF is coming up for AA Platinum which I never use.

I did this last week, with no problems. Account number stays the same. Received the email confirming a new TYP account within a day.

My email for my Dividend card says my account number WILL change. Just a heads up for those with Dividend.

Right. From two emailed PC offers I got, Citi TY Preferred to Citi Rewards+ keeps same card#, but Citi DC to Citi Rewards+ does not.

As a counterpoint, my offer for my Dividend card (received Jan. 19) says my account number will NOT change – “And best of all, you will keep the same account number after you upgrade.” I have three Dividend cards: two MasterCards and one Visa. This offer is for one of my MasterCards, and from the looks of the email, the Rewards+ will be a MasterCard. Perhaps that is the difference for not changing the account number? As to the offer, I never seem to max out all three Dividends, so I’ll probably convert. Cheers.

Same for Dividend, although if they give me the offer after drugstore quarter is over I might think about it.

You have to remember different long term setups. My CDC is pretty useless to me because of the value of MR points for me. Id consider the change and use this for the occasional small purchases. Not really a tough choice given what i have right now.

Maybe you have two Double Cash. Or you usually use a better card for uncategorized spend.

Email to convert Citi TY Preferred to Citi Rewards+ says “you will keep the same account number after you upgrade” so no 24 month issue, and besides, as you said, you’d go for a bigger bonus when you can.

It takes less than a minute to click through the request (though maybe a few weeks for whole process). For me, the 10% boost makes redemptions better for unused TYP that I can’t use for travel. I doubt I’ll use the card.

I did it and my number changed. Confused why…

Usually the only reason Citi changes card numbers is if you’re moving from MC to Visa or vice versa.

Anyone have luck PC’ing TO the Dividend card lately? I have a Simplicity gathering dust and that is the only thing remotely interesting for me right now. I tried once via a call and got nowhere, but not sure if it is worth the effort to try, try again.

Citi has never allowed PCs from Simplicity to any other card. Your problem is not about PCing to the Dividend card. It is about PCing from the Simplicity card.
