Citi has sent out a survey regarding possible changes to the Citi AAdvantage Executive Card. Some proposed changes can be viewed below. The main changes being surveyed seem to be the introduction of a fee for authorized users and introduction of credits (Hyatt, Avis/Budget, Lyft & DoorDash).
ANy updates on this?
This card is good for one thing and that is the Admirals Club Membership. If you were going to buy the membership anyway than this is the way to go. Otherwise no dice
The Hyatt and Avis/Budget credits are decent. Just as long as it isn’t split up into monthly credits. They’re a lot more useful than the credits on the AMEX Platinum and is actually related to travel for the most part.
The free AU and Admirals Club lounge access was going to end one day. $75 for the first two AUs still isn’t bad.
Seems Citi is trying to entice folks to use the card. Rather than a card that gets put in the sock drawer after the SUB spend is reached and is kept around as for AC lounge access.
Yet they won’t add any other bonus category other than AA purchases. Like 2x or 3x on miles might convince folks to put some spend on the card. The lower tier Platinum Select card offers 2x on gas and restaurants (not that there aren’t better cards out there).
I’ve been gold for the past ten years or so, but once they switched to Loyalty Points I’ve already hit platinum and am currently only 407 points away from Platinum Pro. Yesterday I was still 16th in line for an upgrade, which tell me there are a tone of other people reaching new levels with little to no extra effort or spend. Guess it was just too good to last.
It looks like they are taking priority check-in and priority screening away too.
This is positive if authorized users also receive full admirals club memberships. I am vehemently opposed to the coupon book, though. I wish the AA executive card would mirror the United Club card in earning and benefits. Even a throwback to when the United Club card earned 1.5 miles per dollar.
The Amex coupon book disease is spreading faster than ever before. No vaccine or drug available on the market.
Jeez, not even a competitive coupon book vs. amex. Of course I have zero interest in these products no matter how many blog posts there are shilling this junk.
The Lyft credit sounds like complete garbage, even worse than Amex, the way they would dole it out at $10 off your 4th ride.
No real improvement to the earning of the card, which is a big weak spot.
I’m at least happy they’re contemplating bringing back trip cancellation and interruption protection
Isn’t this card $450 with free AUs right now? Brutal.
Yeah, I’m not a big fan of the AA cards. I got a rude awaking when I actually thought I’d take advantage of the benefits. The priority boarding didn’t work (such that it is anyway) and also it was an international flight and then I realized that the baggage benefit (again, such that it is) was only for domestic flights.
You don’t get priority boarding with AA cards, but preferred boarding. This is Group 5. I’ve found Group 5 to still be reasonable enough where there’s definitely enough overhead space left for my bags.
Yeah, I used the wrong terminology… regardless… they put me in Group 6. In other words, whatever you want to call it, I got nothing.
Was it a card with an AF? Only Platinum Select and Executive get priority boarding (PS in Group 5; Executive in Group 4). The MileUp doesn’t get any preferential treatment.
If it was a card with an annual fee, talk with someone at the baggage counter next time you fly – I had a similar issue with my spouse’s Precheck not being applied correctly to tickets, but after they fixed something in their system, we have not had any issues since.
Unless I am mistaken, the Executive card gives you group 4 boarding which allows you to use the priority lane.
Correct. Executive is Group 4 (along with AAdvantage Gold), Platinum Select is Group 5.
