The Offer

Citi sent out an email indicating that for Black Friday they’ll be running a 15% discount on gift card redemptions with ThankYou points. The following brands are shown in the email:

  • Apple
    Applebees
    Barnes & Noble
    Fanatics
    IHOP
    Spafinder
  • Fandango
  • AutoZone

We don’t know which other brands will be included.

Our Verdict

Apple and some others might be useful to some people as well, hopefully some other valuable brands like Best Buy will show up too.

Got an email for DC but went to check online and Rewards+ didn’t have the same discounts… Anyone see it on that card?

I have the Citi Rewards+ and can confirm that I have the 15% off gift cards. Pondering whether to wait until Cyber Monday due to that rumor below of an extra 5% *possibly*. Anyone else have any experience with last Cyber Monday?

Exactly!! EVERYONE WAIT!!! Don’t succumb to a measly 15% off.

This is how I got my iPhone 12 last year for less than $350

Was it the same cards or different ones? I would really like to get a Barnes & Noble gift card to use for the purchase of some books on Cyber Monday.

The best part about Citi’s thank you point is that you can get 1 CPP when redeem towards the statement credit, which is not not the case with UR or MR points.

That’s not true. Sears card is only 0.5 CPP when redeeming for cash/statement credit. UR is always 1 CPP. Amex is 0.66(?)CPP.

wut?

With my AMEX Schwab I get $0.011c per point.
With Chase UR you easily get $0.01c per point as well.

Okay, I did not know about the ‘Cash Back’ option on chase portal, and so agree that chase has 1 CPP. However, I do not agree the option David mentioned, Platinum Schwab for >1 CPP. Why do people need to get a $695 annual fee card to get 1 CPP in statement credit. That card is not keeper card for many!

My friend, I believe you are in a different level of the churning game. For many of us, the ability to cash out MR through Schwab means tens of thousands of dollars in cash. Yeah of course it’s not a keeper card if you’re saving pennies.

” it’s not a keeper card if you’re saving pennies.” Seriously? If you read the posts in reddit, flyertalk, or DoC comments, you will find most people are keeping this card only because of first year SUB and then retention offer.

It works out if you can earn a lot of MR in a year. Mainly people who MS on Amex cards or have a lot of referrals will find it useful.

What if I told you that you can milk amex for millions of MRs and redeem them all through the Charles achwab plat for 1.1cpp?

It’s not just about the AF on a single card…
