Update 2/19/21: Extended until 2/25/21.
The Offer
- Citi are offering a 25% transfer bonus when you transfer your Citi ThankYou points to Avianca LifeMiles program. Normally you can transfer 1,000 Citi ThankYou points and receive 1,000 Lifemiles and with this transfer bonus that changes to 1,250 LifeMiles.
The Fine Print
- Valid until February 18, 2021
Our Verdict
This is a frequent transfer bonus from Citi & Avianca, has been offered these times in the past:
- August 17 – September 18, 2020: 25% transfer bonus
- November 17th – December 11th, 2019: 25% transfer bonus
- November 15th – December 12th, 2018: 25% transfer bonus
This is early in the year to be seeing this bonus. A full list of current & past Citi transfer bonuses can be viewed here. Keep in mind that LifeMiles are frequently sold at a deep discount and award sales are also frequent. Avianca somewhat recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Hat tip to OMaaT
citi Thankyou point 1.25 exchange rate on primier card is going to end this weekend? Any solution to lock some of that value?
Any flight/booking that can be booked and cancelled with the value being added to frequent miler account or something like it?
Suggestions?
Converted Citi double cash rewards to TY points this morning and I still have not received the points. Called TY CSR and they were not very helpful. I guess I am running late and will miss out. Damn….
The bonus will be posted as a seperate transaction.
When I log into my ThankYou account, the option for redeeming ThankYou points for Lifemiles disappears. The only miles conversion option is with JetBlue. Is this offer available for U.S. based ThankYou members?
Because you don’t have a premier or prestige
Where is the offer on the ThankYou site? I don’t see it anywhere on my thankyou site.
Would a token transfer extend the expiration date on my current Lifemiles
yes. any activity extends expiration
just to claify, any accrual of Lifemiles extends expiration 12 months
My annual fee is due on my Citi Premier and I was going to transfer my 65,000 TY points to JetBlue TrueBlue before closing it out. Now I might transfer them to Lifemiles instead. Anybody have any thoughts on that?
Yes, in fact, I do: Since jetBlue points are generally 1cpp, $650 is likely the best you’ll get; however, you may get up to $812.50 in value by booking through Citi ThankYou (1.25x with Premier, as I am sure you already know). The downside with TY is that you 1) need to book something during a global pandemic, and 2) have to deal with Connexions Loyalty (Citi’s service provider for the TY rewards program). CxL can be a pain when it comes to pretty much anything (heaven forbid you need to change something or request a refund when the airline cancels your flight…). Unless jetBlue goes bankrupt, and if you fly them regularly, I’d say their points are an acceptable opportunity cost. They won’t expire, and you don’t have to deal with Citi anymore. Thots?
Thanks for the heads-up on using ThankYou points to book at 1.25x. I thought about doing that, but with the pandemic I was wondering what would happen if I canceled my card, and then had to cancel my booking due to the pandemic. You’ve answered my question. As for Lifemiles, I would certainly have more use for them than I would JetBlue, but by the time I get to use them the airline may no longer be around.
The 1.25x is going to go away on April 10th.
I would transfer to LifeMiles instead. 65k TY points turning into 81.25k Lifemiles is more than enough for a one way ticket to Europe on *A carriers.
They bankrupt, son
