Our Verdict
This is a fairly common transfer bonus from Citi & Avianca. Normally we see it a little later in the year, although last year was fairly early as well. Previous bonuses are as follows:
- August 17 – September 18, 2020: 25% transfer bonus
- November 17th – December 11th, 2019: 25% transfer bonus
- November 15th – December 12th, 2018: 25% transfer bonus
You can view a full list of Citi transfer bonuses here. There is also a 20% discount on award flights currently.
Hat tip to Dans Deals
They have extended this offer until Aug 27.
I combined this offer with the person to person transfer bonus and turned 46,000 Citi TYP into 123,000 Lifemiles for $900 after taxes. Redeemed for USA-Europe 2 seats in business class. There are definitely some good opportunities with Lifemiles. LH first class for 87k FRA-SFO, otherwise 63k biz to Europe.
You paid $1360 for 2 one way business class seats to Europe?
The first class flight alone is over 8k normally
Yes, something like that. It was about 1.2 cpm to “buy” miles with the 115% member to member transfer bonus. Then the math on redeeming the miles vs a reasonable price of ticket ($2400 RT), was about 3 cpm. A decent deal if you have the cash right now. I almost just transferred the points I needed, but was fine with the cash this time and hanging on to lots of TYP.
I think the cheapest OW business class tickets I’ve ever seen were like $900 on TAP.
is avianca any good for anything??
Never ending frustration
I used their program many times, no problem so far.
They don’t have access to all the other reward seats that other programs do and their search engine is garbage… but if you do find availability it’s usually a good deal compared to prices of other programs.
