The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Receive 50,000 Citi ThankYou Points when you spend $3,000 or more within the first three months on the Citi ThankYou Premier card

citi thank you premier

The Fine Print

  • Annual fee of $95 waived the first year
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 3x on travel
    • 2x on dining and entertainment
    • 1x on all other purchases

Our Verdict

Previously the sign up bonus was 50,000 points but was split over two years. You’d earn 20,000 points after $2,000 in spending within the first three months and then another 30,000 points after an additional $3,000 points within the first three months of your second year of being a card member.

Obviously this offer is vastly superior, you get all of your points in the first year (avoiding the need to pay the annual fee) and the minimum spending requirement is lower. Today new changes came into effect on this card (lower annual fee, different bonus categories) which makes it more attractive to keep this card long term.

I’m probably going to jump on this bonus as it’s as good as I’ve seen. If you’re just interested in Citi ThankYou points, this offer makes more sense than the Citi Prestige card in my opinion (which has a massive annual fee of $450) that is also offering a 50,000 point bonus (there is also an in branch offer of 60,000 points with lower annual fee but higher minimum spending requirement).

If you’ve recently applied for this card, it’s well worth asking to be matched to this better sign up bonus as Citi will often match the bonus. If you’ve recently applied for the Prestige card keep in mind these rules when applying for Citi cards:

  • Maximum of one Citi application per eight day period
  • No more than two applications per 65 day period
  • No more than one business application per 95 day period

Also keep in mind you’re not eligible for this offer if you have had a Citi ThankYou Premier card opened or closed in the past 18 months

Anyone knows if I can change this card to a no-fee card after 1 year?

Yes, usually you can. Not always though.

I received a target offer for the Amex Gold with 50k sign up bonus. Do you think that or the Citi Premier is a better offer?

Hi, I recently applied to this credit card (15 days ago) and got the old offer. Do you think I can call CITI and be successfully put into this new program? The spend for the old one is 2k in 3 months. Do you have any advice on what I can do to be switched?

Thanks,

Kevin

Applied for Citi AA on 3/30. Given the 65 day rule, any suggestions on whether I apply for Prestige or Premier first?

Premier alone doesn’t seem like it’s that useful given you can’t convert @1.6cpp without the Prestige. If I apply Prestige, would apply in-branch if that makes a difference. Main concern is not sure which offer will last long enough until my 65 days are up (thinking would be Premier since bonus just released?) since all in all would like to apply for both at the current bonus rates

Perfect thanks, I think you’re right. I do recall the in-branch offer has been available for a lot longer than just this year right? Plus, the later I go for the Prestige, the longer my optionality of being able to convert at 1.6cpp is.

The Prestige though wouldn’t necessarily be harder to receive approval for than the Premier, would it?

I had this card a few years back (got a nice Dell laptop with the bonus). What are the Citi rules for re-applies to get the bonus again??

Any info on whether there is an additional bonus for a purchase by an added authorized user?

I have actually been holding out for this type of offer, so I’ll be applying this week. Still hoping for AA to be added as a transfer partner…

Isn’t AA already a transfer partner? Or is it only for the Prestige Card?

AA flights can be bought using TY points, but TY pts cannot yet be transferred to AA freq flyer miles

Just a clarification / confirmation for some who are/were wondering about the Citigold account holders and annual fee for the 50k Prestige.

I applied the day this 50k offer was announced, received card, etc.. and this weekend received a letter from Citi stating some changes to my account fees. Basically they automatically recognized I was Citigold and changed my AF to $350. I suspect this occurred after I linked the Prestige card/account to my normal Citi account which includes the Citigold.
