The Offer
Direct link to offer (requires unique promo code)
- Open a new Citizens Bank One Checking account and receive a bonus of $200 when you complete the following requirements:
- Make a single direct deposit of $500 or more within 60 days
The Fine Print
- Primary signer on the new checking account may not be or have been a primary or secondary signer on any personal checking account within the previous six months.
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
No Early Account Termination Fee
As far as I know there is no early account termination fee.
One Deposit Checking Account $9.95 Monthly Fee ($150 Bonus)
- $9.99 fee is waived with any deposit (according to this comment they really do many any deposit, even a transfer from another Citizens Bank account will trigger this)
Our Verdict
This is better than the normal $150 bonuses they sometimes offer and better than the other targeted offer for $150/$400 as the $400 offer isn’t worth considering. Always worth checking those moving packets to see what offers they have available. Because it’s targeted this won’t be going to our list of the best checking account bonuses.

i got a $400 code using USPS mover’s guide online.
3/5/18: acct opened
3/28/18: chase external transfer
5/23/18: bonus posted (end of stmt cycle)
My $200 bonus just posted. I applied end of december 2017, $500 deposits arrived first week of february. I used Ally, Schwab, and Discover.
Got the $225/$400 from USPS as well. Has an expiration of 4/30, in central PA. Just a question, am I eligible if I did this before from last time? I closed that account on 10/22/2017 so if I open after 4/22, I meet the 6 month cutoff. But the terms also state ‘you can be paid bonus related to promo one time’. Does it mean this particular promo or across any moving pack promo? Thoughts DoC community?
I just went to do this and the offer has changed. The one I received was $225 / $400 (One Deposit / Platinum Checking). For the $225 it was the same $500 DD, but for the $400 it was $1,000.
$400 didn’t seem worth it because of the monthly fee. Depending on how fast the bonus hits, I can see it working, but I wouldn’t try it.
I followed the same online change of address method mentioned in the post to get this. I screwed up the first one and online chat couldn’t help me, so I did it again and got the same offer, which I then managed not to screw up. The account is currently pending approval.
I have a PDF of the offer if you need confirmation. Just let me know where to send it.
I got the same $225 offer as well, expiration date 04/30/2018.
My post office gave me one of these early and I submitted it over 2 weeks ago along with pics, never been updated. Mentioned it on Reddit too along with giving away a spare code, only to be downvoted…
I’ve received a lot of help and useful info, but I don’t understand this community sometimes…
Thanks Alex. I too got $225/$400 offer and waiting for this one for some time. Bonus hit within 2 months after completing requirements for my spouse. Opened the platinum account today and pending approval.
Is your account approved ? Did they ask DL/Utility Bill proof for you ?
My account isn’t approved yet. I uploaded the proof documents immediately but haven’t heard anything since then.
My account was finally approved on monday. I did followed up with them on last sat and they started looking at my document after my call. Please call them if your account is not approved yet
are these accounts able to be churned as I think the photo of terms you show says it must the first new checking account…
can anyone tell me if these coupons from changing address online are printed with a specific name or if I can put in a request and simply give my coupon to a friend to use to open the account?
I did a second change-of-addr after un-freezing Equifax and got another coupon. Was able to submit application this time, but its still pending. I get an email every day saying I have to upload documentation that I already uploaded. Application status is Under Review.
DP….Went to the post office and picked up a couple of moving packs hoping to find a citizens bank coupon. No go in both packages….this is in upstate NY whee there are Citizen banks on every corner.
Upstate NY here too, and same experience. Did you try the online method?
Nope….
Okay so I just applied with the moving mailer I got via USPS online move form. You can apply online as the mailer says “offer code must be entered at citizensbank.com/checkingoffer for customer to be eligible”. You can fund $1k with visa/mc card. Probably $2k if you open a savings account also.
For me personally it didn’t work out. I don’t have a visa/mc to meet MS on now, and I got auto-denied when it came to loading ChexSystem questions. I have a lot of bank accounts open in the past year, assuming this is why.
FYI – the datapoints for what counts as cash advance or not for funding Citizens Bank account, the recent DP for Citi card not posting as cash advance mentions “FIRST Citizens Bank” and doesn’t say anything about funding bank account w/ citi card
Oh, it was because I have Equifax frozen. Forgot I need to un-freeze. Maybe I’ll try it again.
So I have a Citizens bank about 1 mile from my house in Kansas, yet were not on this list? Guessing it wont work here?
Probably a different “Citizens” bank there… so, no. Just like “first” anything bank, there is a bunch of different banks with similar names.
CitizensBankOfKansas is very different from Citizens Bank (Citizens Financial Group, Inc.)
