CLEAR Pricing Increased For Delta Members

CLEAR makes it easier and quicker to get through airport security lanes at select airports (and select times at those airports). This is possible with dedicated CLEARlanes at these airports. You need to present your boarding pass and tap your finger to use these lanes. CLEAR pricing for Delta members has been increased as of April 5th, 2019. General Delta members will see the price increase from $99 to $119. Platinum, Gold & Silver will see the price increase from $79 to $109. As anybody can become a Delta member Platinum, Gold & Silver members are seeing their true discount reduce from $20 to $10, as well as the actual price increasing by $30. Keep in mind that Hertz members can also get up to six months of CLEAR for free.

Existing members will be grandfathered into the old pricing.

Quite the price increase, sounds like the ship is sinking.

I dunno, “General Delta members will see the price increase from $99 to $119.” is exactly the increase Amazon did last year on Prime. Not the same situation of course (nothing has been added to Clear AFAIK, unlike how Prime keeps getting more stuff), but that increase doesn’t seem to have hurt Amazon any.

I think he means that they’re raising the price because not enough people are signing up. Amazon is adding features, more video content, etc, so it’s easy enough to figure out where the extra money is going. Whereas Clear isn’t adding anything with this price increase.

Is clear available for non-citizens? (Going to google anyway but GE might not be possible for anyone so clear does has its edge)

I mean if it has larger target audience but it requires citizenship or PR so maybe not.

They don’t explicitly require US citizenship or permanent residency on their support page, but they do require a US ID. Some visas (H1B, F1..) are eligible for state IDs / DLs, but it’s a grey area, I’d definitely ask before paying.

FYI, according to TPG, existing Delta CLEAR members have their rates grandfathered in. I’ve confirmed, my account shows renewal at $99 still. Too soon to say how long the old rates stay in effect for us though.

Used it when flying out of LGA Last month and there were more people in clear TAS than in the regular TSA Line. there was actually a line in clear.

Why doesn’t Delta just tell you “the price is what we say it is when you need it”? That would be consistent with their other pricing experiences.

Dang. $30 increase for Delta CC holders. I had planned to keep it, but only traveling 4-5 times a year (and already have GE&Pre), not worth it.

Thanks for the heads up on Hertz – CLEAR is a real plus at SFO if you don’t have status or Pre-Check.

At that price why not just get Global Entry or Pre-Check? Is Clear worth it?

Depends on the Airport, last several trips through SFO and past 45 days ( and also switching terminals for layover’s to stop at Centurion lounge and/or Giants Club house for food, snacks and drinks then going back through security) the CLEAR line was only a few people and TSA PC line was still quite the wait.

So will get the 6 months free through Hertz then – re-evaluate.

So they let you through security in the wrong terminal even though you have a boarding pass for an airline that doesn’t fly out from there? I was tempted last time to also visit the Giants Club house, but was in the American Airlines terminal, so didn’t bother trying.

It’s never been a problem, as long as your layover is long enough and you have the time to get through the Security at Terminal 3 and then back thru at Terminal 2 (AA or AS), 1 (WN) or G for Int’l outbound.

We just flew in from LHR earlier this week, cleared customs, rechecked our bags on AS to PDX. Then went to the Centurion Lounge, for a lite diner and dessert, the panna cotta with fresh berries was amazing.

Yet the filet mignon sliders and onion rings at the Giants club house are worth the trip through security and far better than most airline food.

TSA scans your boarding pass to enter into terminal and as long as your ticket is for the same day and for a valid flight at that airport at least that has been my experience.

Scott we do have GE/PC and I would have to fly in/out of airports that offer CLEAR lines a lot more, than I do to justify it (and then only if PC security lines were as bad as SFO/ATL during peak travel time. But the six months free through Hertz is a no-brainer.

Lots of people have precheck/GE. There are times at my airport when I’ve wondered if I would have been better off in the general line.
