The Offer

No direct link, check your emails

  • City National Bank is offering 5x points at the grocery store on their Crystal card for the months of June and July. There is a cap of $1,000 in purchases per month which earn the rewards.

This promo began already on June 1st.

Our Verdict

They removed the 3x grocery category starting January 1st this year; during this time-limited promotion you’ll earn 5x. Points are worth 1.2 cents when redeemed for travel.

Amex should have done something like this and placed a cap. That would have been better than having to review accounts manually to make sure they qualify for those limited time category bonuses.

beware of large purchase auto-rejections, at the point of purchase. call before to set up your card for large purchases

The travel concierge reached out to let me know she could book travel for me. I have cancelled the card, and she refused to help getting refunds from an airline eariler. (Same lady) Oh, and she sent me some beyond worthless discount coupons. I felt it like retaliating with some Buca di Beppo gift cards or something.

Anyone know if CNB is extending benefits or doing any adjustments for the pandemic?

It’s a rather late announcement for a limited-duration promo (40% already passed). If I didn’t see this on DoC it might take even longer for the email to land in my inbox…

I received an email about this earlier today. City is a little late to the party, but I’ll happily take the bonus points. With that said, I’m still cancelling the card upon the next renewal.

Hadn’t noticed until now and don’t see it in any of your write-ups: The annual airline incidental credit is now $350. https://www.cnb.com/personal/cards/credit-cards/crystal-visa-infinite.html

The link he put in “Our Verdict” actually does cover this from back in November 2019.

Is this targeted? I haven’t seen an e-mail on this but would definitely buy some GC real quick to top off my account.
