Our Verdict
This works out to be an APY of 24% on the $1,000 bonus. Definitely worth doing although you need to call in to do it. Will add to the best bank account bonuses.

Does the average-daily balance have to be maintained:
Thanks!
My understanding is you have 30 days to bring up the balance to 5k or 25k. After that the balance can fluctuate. Summing up the daily balances over the 60-day evaluation period from day 31 to day 90 and then dividing by 60, if the result is above 5k or 25k, then you are eligible for bonus.
That’s typically the case, but the fine print doesn’t mention anything about the 60-day evaluation period commencing after the 30th day, and a bank representative mentioned that “the calculation for average daily balance starts at account opening so it is recommended to have funds ready to move into the account at opening”, which is why I wanted to poll the community as to the information they had been provided.
DP:
They have limits on transfer amounts from account opening, which prevented me from transferring in the money right away. I assumed this was temporary, but after a week called in and learned that I had to request a higher limit. In total, it was about a week before I transferred slightly over $25,000 into the account (pull). A few days ago, a $500 deposit was added as a promotion. I’m currently messaging with customer service to inquire why this amount wasn’t $1000. Unfortunately, it looks like they are calculating from account opening, which is not made clear, at least to my reading, from the terms. Anyone else in a similar position? This seems like a legitimate complaint.
When I opened the account I emailed the banker asking for clarification and got the reply that the calculation period was day 31-day 90. I just looked at my account and it seemed they calculated from the account opening, as I got $500 bonus posted after the 60th day instead of $1000 after the 90th day. I am not sure whether I should contact the banker or a general customer service.
Contact your banker and ask that an exemption request be submitted. Apparently, the terms changed during mid-promotion going from day 31-90 to opening. Not a promising start with this CU.
Thanks! That is a good point. I’ll give it a try!
Registered my name as a Trade Name in CO (where I live), very easy online and instant, for $20. You have to speak or email with a representative when opening the account and specifically mention the promotion. He was friendly and prompt in sending documents and opening the account.
What are your Chex #s?
I had my chex frozen, they didn’t ask me to unfreeze it.
Denied due to Chex
Also denied, presumably because of Chex.
Just a note for anyone interested in doing this, if you are opening as a Sole Prop and use your name as your business name, you must have a registered “Trade Name” with the CO Secretary of State. Even though from the states standpoint this isn’t required, this CU requires either a “Trade Name” or “Articles of Incorporation” to open the account.
It costs $20 to register a trade name with CO.
Were you able to open the account and if so was it via online/docusign or did you go there personally?
I didn’t register the trade name yet, but will today. The person I spoke to said I could call back to finish applying once I got the trade name form.
Are you in CO or OOS?
Phil
I am OOS. Curious if we can set up an LLC in CO with an OOS license, then apply for this biz account.
I did not think that far, good question. A quick Google search, we could pay $9 a month for a CO virtual address. Then once the bank account is approved, change our mailing address to our OOS address, then cancel the virtual address subscription.
But being Chex sensative, I think I will pass. I would not get approved as my Chex is very high.
No I have not done this in the past, just thinking outside the box.
I’m in CO. I’d recommend calling and asking. They answer quick.
Were you able to open an account? If so, what are your Chex #’s?
No OOS. Have to have biz in CO.
