New $3 Lesson: SAND

I don’t know when this showed up. I just checked Coinbase and it was there.

I always do these deals and convert to Tether. Then, once I have $20 or so, I sell and cash out. Not much, but it counts.

The reason why you convert it first rather than selling is you’ll only pay one $1 fee when you sell for cash instead of $1 each $3 transaction.

Joe If you use advanced trading instead, you’ll pay pennies to sell rather than the $1 fee you are talking about. I always convert my crypto to cash right away and hardly pay anything in fees when I use their advanced trading feature (used to be Coinbase Pro).

Would you mind elaborating Dominique? I have about $40 spread over about 20 currencies, all from doing these freebies. Feels like I should convert to ethereum or bitcoin and let that just sit. But I have no idea about the best process for doing this. Any guidance would be most welcome!

I convert fee free to DAI. Transfer to Coinbase Pro and sell for cash. Cash immediately goes to linked checking.

Thanks SOZ but I don’t see how to convert fee free, or to transfer to CB Pro.

SOZ Coinbase Pro is no longer available, you will need to access Coinbase advanced trading in order to get all the previous Coinbase Pro features directly on the Coinbase website.

After login, CB Pro leads me to its replacement.

Matty Joe Login to your Coinbase account, and click on “Trade” on the far left sidebar. Next click on the “Advanced” tab. Find your desired currency pair by typing in the abbreviation for the crypto coin that you are planning to sell (e.g. “BTC”). Click on your desired currency pair, which will include the crypto coin that you are selling, and USD if you want to sell your crypto for US Dollars. Go to the far right widget on the trading page you are taken to, and click on the “Sell” tab.

Below the “Sell” tab, select if you would like to place a Market or Limit order. You will then need to drag the knob on the sliding bar underneath these options from left to right all the way if you are selling all of your assets of a single type. Underneath the sliding bar, you will see how much of your crypto you are selling and what the fees are.

Place your order, and your funds should be made immediately available in your chosen asset if you placed a Market order. If you made a Limit order, it might take a while, or in some instances, you may never fill your order at all. You can check the status of all your orders under the “Orders” widget at the very bottom of the page underneath the Price Chart. You are done if your order is marked as “filled” rather than “open.”

Once your order is filled, go to the “Assets” tab on the far left. Click on the USD asset, and your balance should show your recent crypto sale as available. Click on the “Cash Out” tab on the far right widget of the USD page, and enter how much you want to send to your linked bank account, or “Cash Out All” in order to withdraw everything. You can add a debit card to cash out to, but you will be charged a fee for doing so.

Add a linked bank account here either manually or by Plaid if you don’t already have one, and proceed to cashout from there. You should not be charged a fee for sending your cash withdrawal as an ACH transfer to your external bank account. If you get an error stating that your cashout amount is too large, try taking a penny off of your desired withdrawal amount and then click the blue “Cash Out Now” button on the next screen.

Thank you Dominique! This was super helpful. I actually executed a bunch of “convert” transactions last night using the simple “Trade” tab, just to see how it went. I wasn’t charged any fees, but my understanding is that the spread is less desirable than when using Advanced. The amounts were small ($1 here, $.50 there), so I’m not too worried. But this rundown will be good for the future. Thanks again.
