The Offer
- Costco has 12 month spotify membership gift cards for $98.99 for Costco members.
The Fine Print
- Redeemable only for full priced standalone Premium subscription months via spotify.com and cannot be redeemed for Family or Student plans
Our Verdict
Keep in mind this won’t work for family or student plans. Normal pricing is ~$10.50 so you save about $30 with this deal. It’s actually cheaper if you set up a family plan and then share with friends/family, but that is questionable and requires a bit of set up. If you’ve never used Spotify before, it’s usually possible to get a free 3 month trial membership first. Other music streaming services also offering similar free trials, so you could skip between those to get a year of free memberships and then decide which one you like best.
Does it work if I have the Hulu addon?
Last time I did the New Years $100 prepaid promo THEN did the Hulu addon.
Answered my own question: YES.
I had prepaid Spotify last year through their own promotion and later added Hulu which shortened my hear by 2 months. I just applied the code and my next $12.99 will be billed on 12/2019. Saving about $4.74/month or $56.89/year
Darn, would’ve been nice to apply to my Family subscription. I wouldn’t pay for a streaming service if it wasn’t for such a plan. Get 5 of your friends/family/strangers to divvy up the $14.99 monthly cost to make it $2.50 a month per person, or $30 a year per person.
Danker tip- buy a .edu account on Fiverr for 4.99/month on Spotify
what do you search for or under to find .edu on fiverr. I can’t seem to find anybody offering them.
Bad tip. Good luck getting past their student verification. They use something called SheerID that is hard to get around if you aren’t enrolled in a college. Also, fiverr has really cracked down on .edu addresses.
Yup, I have a lifetime .edu from my school, and it doesn’t work for spotify – does most places, but not spotify. (I’m long out of school)
Can anyone verify that this works as an add on to an existing membership?
Last time I tried a Spotify gift card deal, it could only be used if you didn’t currently have a subscription and were subscribing. Now they’re restricting it only to full priced plans? Is it even legal for them to be called gift cards with so many limitations? Sounds like Spotify is asking for trouble from the State of California…
That’s a good point.
Restaurants.com seems to have no problem selling stuff with more limitations than actual uses. I doubt it will be an issue as long as the wording is clear.
So so true. I grin when some retailer offers me a free $100 GC to restaurants.com. I’d rather get 5 bucks.
