The Offer
- Costco is selling 5 $100 DoorDash giftcards for $399.95
Our Verdict
This works out to be a 20% discount, much better than we’ve seen in the past but obviously not many people need $500 in DoorDash giftcards. Keep in mind you can use gift cards and DoorDash promo codes in the same order.
dead
I rarely get doordash unless I have a promo code. There’s no way that business can survive. Just like Uber … “one day we’ll turn a profit”
I hate doordash claims the payment is “free” when you use GC. Does GC come free? Of course not!
I have a couple months left on my CSR DashPass membership… I’m curious if they are going to extend it. If so, this deal seems decent. There are some nicer restaurants around us that participate in DD and Caviar and it wouldn’t be too hard to use these up over the course of a year.
If the DD benefits go out the window after the two year freebie… forget it. DoorDash frequently combines our delivery with someone else’s and we’re always the last delivery. The only reason we use DD is because of the Chase benefits and so we’ll give UberEats and Grubhub a spin if they do go away.
Try registering another Chase card as a payment method. I recently downgraded my CSR and just registered another Chase card and it offered me another free year.
Combine with $50 off $500 Costco.com coupon?
Would have jumped on this if it were Uber / ubereats
Don’t you mean “can’t” use a gift card and a promo code in the same order? The article says otherwise but I’ve never been able to combine both.
DoorDash gift cards in fact add credit to one’s account, which later is used to pay for an order even if a promo is used. So, gc can be combined with a promo code, although not directly.
Can you use a DD GC and also get the DashPass benefits from your Chase card?
Yes
Doordash and others have like a 35% premium compared to buying directly from the restaurants available so this is great if you have additional discounts in your doordash account.
I’m not sure where you’re getting 35%. In my experience it’s more like 10-15%. Some places it isn’t any higher than their menu prices. True, you’re adding on a decent percentage for tip but the time saver is worth it for me.
All dependent on the restaurant. The restaurants set their own pricing, not DD.
I’ve seen maybe 10% set it at 30% above menu price, 50% at 15-20% above menu price, 30% at 5-10% above menu price and 10% of restaurants match their regular menu price.
Couple that with promos frequently offered and these GC’s at a hefty 20% discount. I’ve found it to be actually cheaper than paying the restaurant directly at times and that’s including delivery fees + tip.
DoorDash is so desperate to make money. They think we are so gullible.
