Creditcards.com has sent out an e-mail to users of it’s free credit monitoring service to let them know that the service will be officially shutting down on December 18th, 2018. Users are then directed to sign up for a free credit score and credit monitoring from their friends at bankrate (bankrate owns creditcards.com). This is the same thing that recently happened with Quizzle as well. Looks like bankrate is trying to push users to it’s main service rather than having these smaller competing services operating.
This doesn’t really change the landscape for free credit monitoring though as the Bankrate service is still powered by TransUnion. If you want to monitor all three nationwide credit bureaus then we suggest:
- Credit Karma will give you information on both TransUnion & Equifax
- Freecreditscore.com will give you information on Experian
I realize this article is dated four years ago, but since I couldn’t find any newer pieces on the matter I wanted to note that it seems Bankrate.com no longer offers credit score and report monitoring. So they purchased and shutdown these smaller outfits that offered the service, directed users to the Bankrate service, and then shut down the Bankrate service. Of course there are still other options.
As an aside: As of today Bankrate.com still has a Quizzle shutdown page that talks about how Quizzle users can use the Bankrate service for a free credit score, but again the Bankrate service, that last I knew was available circa 2019, appears to have been wiped from the current Bankrate.com site. Newer Bankrate articles from 2020 talk about about how free credit scores can be obtained from certain banks, with no mention of a Bankrate service.
Did you accidentally leave off part of a sentence? Sentence was cut off after “Looks like bankrate is trying to”…
Sure did, let me update
