Our Verdict
Good deal if you can use the ExtraBucks rewards.
My own dp: 11/14/23, 8pm EST, local CVS, bought $100 uber (the $15-200 variable type). The $20 extrabuck didn’t print. A closer look at the receipt see the offer with the wording “offer limit reached”. I have never jumped on this deal before so pretty sure it is the system limit. Waste my $100 payment. Anybody know how to return gift card to CVS? The cashier doesn’t know how to do it, nor do I.
Never mind. Found the answer myself, in short, “No way”.
“Gift cards, pre-paid cards, and phone cards cannot be returned or exchanged, except where required by law.” https://www.cvs.com/bizcontent/general/contactus/storerefundpolicy.pdf
Isn’t this very unfair, particularly for the unfulfilled $20 extra buck?
I had the same issue. I had a manager come over and they looked at the coupon, looked at my purchase and manually awarded me the $20. Definitely YMMV but worth a shot
Unfortunately I can confirm that as of this evening CVS is enforcing/extending the previous week’s limit. My $20 ECB didn’t print tonight. I was able to get it last week.
I was not confident that the limits would be reset from last week on the same exact deal. Thanks for the data point.
Got a $100 Doordash gift card, used the QR code on my Freedom Flex to get 7x points and the $20 in Extrabucks. No signs about this anywhere in the store. Love this site!
Nice, two weeks in a row.
I’m going to try and use the EB for my holiday cards through CVS Photo. You create online and do instore pay & pickup. When you pickup you enter your extracare card and ask the cashier to apply the EB before you pay. I think it might work.
CVS frequently offers 30 or 40% off full priced items. That’s why their prices are about that much higher than other stores. If you shop the deals, you’ll usually come out ahead, but Target can be cheaper at full price.
If you get Carepass, you’re essentially paid to shop there. $48 a year = $120 extrabucks is a 60% discount and 20% off store brand
That’s assuming you utilize the carepass offer that expires monthly. I usually feel forced to use it (or force P2 to use it) and feel like I’m just overspending on their already marked up items.
Between paper towels, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, floss, acne stuff, OTC allergy meds, a few vitamins my family takes… There’s always $10 of stuff I need. TBH I missed 2 months last year, but that’s still $100 for $48.
I get a cvs 30% discount working there and that STILL isn’t worth buying their overpriced products
Fyi… I recently learned that multiple percentage off offers on CVS cards can be stacked on the same item. I had two “40% off an item” offers and one “30% off”…on the same card. The guy at the register used the first 40% off…then the next 40% off the remaining amount…etc. Any extra bucks you have would be taken off after all the “percentage off” offers on your CVS card were used first. My socks ended up costing me less than two dollars. Btw…I mentioned my Albert card in a different comment…it’s not worth opening an account with them for the cashback offers…any longer. I got an email from them the other day. They’ve basically added a yearly fee of $169 to use those offers. Between the new fee and the requirement of a dd every month…it’s no longer worth having. I hope this helps somebody…have a blessed rest of your day!!
I didn’t realize that the % off offers stacked until recently !!!
for in store only ?
Yeah…you can’t buy any of the sale gcs online.
Problem is CVS is so overpriced that the $20 in EB rewards is equivalent to $10-$15 if you are a thrifty shopper, so a 10%-ish discount on gift cards really isn’t that exciting
Is it exciting if stacking with 7x by Freedom Flex and 5~20% Chase offer? To me, yeah
It can make sense if the $20 in EB is stacked with other coupons and discounts. Can be hit or miss, some items have inflated pricing, while others are competitive. Best to have an idea of what to buy before starting the deal.
You should be able to use the $20 ECB to buy some stuff on Black Friday and get more ECBs back. They usually have a bunch of free items after ECB.
If you easily use the giftcard in the offer, it’s really not bad. Combine with 5% PayPal QR code and 3% back drugstores on Freedom.
You could even signup for carepass through the Amex offer and get another $10.
With the $20 ECB, you do have to spend it all in one transaction or forfeit the remaining amount.
