Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
BMT checking has no monthly fees to worry about.
Early Account Termination Fee
I wasn’t able to find any fee schedule so I’m unsure if there is an early account termination fee or not.
Our Verdict
This is a fantastic bonus, it’s obviously huge ($520 total) but that is made better by the fact that you can get most of the bonus without a direct deposit as well and the fact that there is no monthly fee to worry about. Downside is that it looks like you need to schedule a call to open the account. My guess is that this offer will be shut down fairly quickly or they will try to reneg on the deal. I’d sign up quickly if you’re interested.

Sent SM to close the account (zero-balance). They replied saying I had to talk to a customer service rep. I missed their call and called them back. They tried to make me come into a branch to close it but I said “I’m not coming into a branch to close a zero-balance account”. He said that they don’t close accounts over the phone. I said “I understand and that’s why I secure messaged you from my account to prove it was me sending the request.” They put me on hold and then came back saying they would close it.
I called them to close the account and they are asking me to go to branch. nearest branch is more than 60 miles . Is there any other way closing accounts with this bank? .TIA.
They wanted me to go to a branch too, and the nearest one for me is 90 miles away. I sent them a letter to close the account. I sent the letter to Bryn Mawr Trust, 801 Lancaster Ave., Bryn Mawr, PA 19010. As long as your account balance is zero, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Thanks
Marty
Do you still have the $2500 in your MM account? My interest just posted yesterday so I would like to close both accounts also.
Did you make the Money Market account $0 before closing? If so, wouldn’t that be risking a fee since I seem to remember there being a fee if the account goes below $2K.
I just went to branch and closed both accounts. My checking was zero balance but mm had 2500 +. They gave me a check. Mm account is not visible on site now after login however checking is still showing as 0. Hopefully they closed it properly. On a side note I went to bmt on grant ave Philadelphia and people there are very helpful and pleasant to deal with. If not far from my house , I would have kept checking open .
Anyone know if you don’t do the first part of the bonus in 10 days if that means I won’t be paid out for the others? I completed all requirements, but they are saying I didn’t fund the $130 in 10 days. I’m putting the fault on them, as I chose to fund the account with a total of $2700 to meet two of the requirements the day I applied. Due to issues on their end, I wasn’t able to verify the trial deposits and they informed me on the phone this wouldn’t impact my 10 day limit for the bonus. Obviously that is coming back to haunt me as I don’t have that in writing.
Same problem here. Went to a branch to ask about my bonus, banker told me to call since they can’t post the bonuses in branch. Phone rep said since the deposit wasn’t made in branch I didn’t qualify for any part of the bonus. When I opened the account the banker said I could do it electronically and still qualify, which I did that day and posted 3 days later. Not feeling good about getting this overturned.
Bonus in process.

How long are you waiting to close your account?
Didn’t close this yet but if no etf then 2-4 weeks
entire $520 bonus just posted for my wife. We didn’t have to ask about it, it happened automatically right at the deadline.

All other requirements fulfilled
Bonus in process/posted 7/22 – $390. (seems to be they saw what the dd really was – still happy)
Will get to see more details when posted.
Thanks DoC.
Still no bonus posted for me despite being over the 120 days. Account opened 3/16 and completed all four conditions using real DDs. Called the bank and they said they have people looking closely at every account to apply the bonus. They then said it will post after the 120 day statement closes. My statement closing date is 7/31… will update then.
$520 bonus finally posted. Took a little longer than the stated 120 days.

The bonus posted to the checking account. No fees for either the checking or MM account
I opened my account the day after yours and I don’t have anything posted yet. They technically have 3 more days so fingers crossed.
Real or fake DD? Even besides that, you would still be eligible for the other parts of the bonus so no issues calling them if it doesn’t post.
Real DDs
Glad to see you got your bonuses. Since you got $520 you must have also opened the money market account. There was a promo rate of 2% attached to that through February 2020. Are you getting the 2%?
Looking at the account online my son saw in the details section that the APY was stated as being 1.49%. He then looked at his last 2 statements. The first statement indicated an APY of 1.75% and the second statement indicated rate of 2.00. He has emailed them and their reply is they are investigating it and gave him telephone number of the branch where he opened account.
Yes, I was getting the 2% promo rate throughout the time. I also closed out my accounts before my statement period and they gave me the interest accrued. Some other banks make you forfeit any interest earned if you close the account before interest posts.
As someone else said, you definitely do need to watch for maintenance fees. I was hit with a $15 maintenance fee in the personal money market account even though I am above the minimum balance. I had $2509 in the account when the minimum needed to avoid fees is $2000. I called the bank and they reversed the fee, they weren’t sure how I was even charged the fee.
Be sure to turn of paper statements as IS250 said. I didn’t notice and was just hit with a $2 fee
if you call them , they will revert it. also pretty easy to setup online.
