Delta ‘Enhances’ Partnership With Hertz

Delta has enhanced the Hertz partnership with new earning rates and Hertz status benefits. Earning rates depend on your Delta status are as follows:

  • Diamond Medallion: eight miles per $1 spent.
  • Platinum Medallion: seven miles per $1.
  • Gold Medallion: six miles per $1.
  • Silver Medallion: five miles per $1.
  • SkyMiles Member: four miles per $1

Hertz status you receive is as follows:

  • Diamond and Platinum Medallion receive President’s Circle status.
  • Gold and Silver Medallion receive Five Star status

I have no idea what the previous rates were, but this might be useful to some readers.

AFAIK this would be in lieu of more valuable Hertz points.

Pick your peso.

And if you aren’t medallion, it actually works out worse for a daily rental < $125, because most of the other car rental agencies (National, etc) get 500 Skymiles per rental. Of course if you're renting daily often you should probably be EE and getting rental credits rather than Skymiles anyhow.

Also assumed Hertz won’t go bankrupt before you redeem. Again, not an issue for those renting often.

I was going to sign up for this, but Hertz already opened a Gold Circle account for me without my consent!

Whoops, wrong post.

Do any jails match Delta platinum status? That would be a perfect addition to the Delta-Hertz partnership.

Never doing any business with Hertz. My freedom is more valuable than any monetary considerations.

Yeah no joke. I know it’s like, 1 in a 100,000 rentals that had this issue, and the ones that did had some commonality in not booking directly through Hertz, and changing their rental terms mid-reservation, but that’s still too much of a chance for me. I will definitely be avoiding one of the top rental car companies in terms of customer satisfaction.

I can do Avis for the same convenience and price 99% of the time so it makes it an easy decision. Not saying I’ll never use hertz

Screw Hertz. Grossly mis-managed company that had criminal levels of negligence in policy. How the government hasn’t crushed them into oblivion is beyond me. Shame on Delta for expanding partnership.

I think this is one of those “enhancements” that is actually a devaluation. What I do no see mentioned are base miles earned. It used to be that you would earn a base amount of SkyMiles per rental (1000 for Silver/Gold Medallions, 1250 for Platinum/Diamond), plus extra miles related to the number of days rented (300 per day at least for Diamond medallion). For example, looking up a rental I made in March 2021, as a Diamond Medallion I earned 1250 base miles plus 900 bonus miles (2150 total). The base rental fee for the March 2021 reservation was $115 (plus $54 in taxes and fees). If I am now only earning 8x on the base rental fee (without taxes and fees), I would have to pay $269 for the base rental fee to earn 2150 miles. So on my prior rental, I would earn less than half the miles under the new system compared to before.

Are these points transferable? Might need to barter for some cigarettes in the yard.

This is a TERRIBLE change – I believe Diamond/Platinum used to get a flat 1250 miles per rental and Silver/Gold 1000 miles, while general members got 500 miles. So, now a Diamond rental cost under $156.25 earns LESS, Platinum rental cost under $178.57 earns LESS, Gold rental under $166 earns less, Silver under $200 earns LESS and general member rental under $125 earns less…. I guess it is a good change if you have pricey rentals.. I usually had 1-3 day rentals always under those thresholds… oh, and those amounts I listed are for rental charge BEFORE taxes and fees

Only last month did Hertz publicly announce a settlement of $168 million to the 364 customers falsely accused of car theft.

That’s not enough.
We need to cancel Hertz before it cancels us ever again.
In other words, we need to hurt Hertz where it hurts!

Well, if the regular rate is just 4-8% higher (unlikely, but if..), it’s like buying miles at 1c.

If it’s excluding Corporate rates, that’s definitely no good for me. The Amex Platinum cardholder rate when you have the discount attached to your account is a 20% discount but shows as a Corporate rate. (And that code doesn’t negate Rakuten earnings.) I haven’t found any discounts higher than that, and this often makes Hertz the winner by a large margin in cost when I rent. I think maybe only 1 of my last 10 rentals didn’t require me to submit a claim for my 1250 SkyMiles as a Platinum. Since I usually do 3-6 day rentals, the new earnings calculation would work out to substantially more miles but sounds like it’s not really feasible.
