The Offer
- Delta has unadvertised flash sale with flights to Mexico and some Carribean islands on sale starting from 12,000 miles round trip. Flights are available from June 2018 until May 2019. Flights should be available out of most airports.
- Departure airports:Â ATL/BNA/BOS/BWI/FLL/JFK/LAX/MCO/MIA/MSY/ORD/SAN
- Destination airports:Â MEX/CUN/CZM/ZIH/SJD/PVR
Our Verdict
Delta no longer offers an award chart, so calling both of these sales is a little bit generous but they are cheaper than the standard rates so we will post them anyway. Any excuse to use up Delta miles is always a good one as well. They offered a similar sale earlier in the year but with flights to the Caribbean as well, not sure if those are available this time or not.
Hat tip to TPG
Also looking for flights from ATL to MEX and lowest is 35000.
Already bought 3 ticket to SJD from LAX back in April for New Year with 41,500miles per ticket.
Now it is 14,000miles per ticket. (3rd ticket was 16,000miles)
Called Delta said they can’t give me back the miles. (if I had purchased the tickets, said they would refund me though)
So I paid $450 and and booked the same flight again and got 80,500miles back.
Hope it was a smart move.
So you paid $150 per ticket to cancel and rebook at the lower miles per ticket?
Yeah, $148 something per ticket to be exact with little less tax.
0.56 cents per mile.
You can go to Tokyo with less as 70,000miles but you can’t buy ticket to Tokyo with $450, that is what I thought.
Nothing from JFK
I am seeing lots of options from JFK, for as low as 12k. For example, just pulled up Sept. 1 through Sept. 6, and 12k was the cost for R/T from JFK to MEX.
Ye you’re right there are some 12K plus $79 round trips in September. I was checking for next year April and it was between 30 and 40K
Delta skymiles can be redeemed on any Delta flight for 1 cent each using pay with miles (if you have a Delta Amex card.) This makes them much more versatile than pretty much any other airline mileage program. Sure other currencies are better for aspirational international business / first class seats the bloggers love to brag about, but if I actually need to get somewhere on a specific date at a specific time, SkyMiles are far more useful.
And you still earn EQMs for those of you that care.
Didn’t see anything I needed out of Baltimore.
I couldn’t see anything out of SAN
Not for ATL
Agreed. Lowest I see is 35000 to MEX.
